Recommended Pickup
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, OF, NYM -- The former third-round pick is getting run as the Mets' primary center fielder (he'll likely sit against lefties) while Andres Torres is on the disabled list with a calf injury. He fits better for NL-only and deep mixed leagues than shallow formats, but Nieuwenhuis has shown consistent on-base skills at all of his minor league stops and hit .298/.403/.505 in 53 games at Triple-A Buffalo last season. In terms of ceiling, he may top out as a David DeJesus type player, but double-digit homers and steals with a good average certainly won't hurt you.
Other Recent Recommendations: Jonathan Broxton, Hector Santiago, J.D. Martinez and Juan Nicasio
