2023 Fantasy Outlook
Castro is the type of player who is more valuable in real life than he is in fantasy. He played in 120 games for the Tigers in 2022 and appeared at six defensive positions, though the club opted not to tender him a contract for 2023. Castro also batted a solid .271, which was actually the lowest mark of his five-year MLB career, as he's developed into a consistent contact hitter who has batted .300 or better twice. However, only 30 of Castro's 114 hits went for extra bases, and he produced a meager 47 RBI. Castro also failed to steal a base, and his lack of power or speed limits his fantasy appeal. All in all, Castro is a solid utility player who would boost plenty of MLB rosters, but contact hitters who don't steal bases don't move the needle much in fantasy leagues. Entering his age-29 season, Castro will have some productive moments, though there are certainly higher-upside options available. Read Past Outlooks

Drives in two Sunday
Castro went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's 10-5 loss to the White Sox.
ANALYSIS
Castro has seen limited playing time in August, with this being just his seventh game this month. He's gone 4-for-14 with four RBI in that span. The 29-year-old is slashing .267/.283/.332 with one home run, 29 RBI, 23 runs scored and 12 doubles through 241 plate appearances this season. With Brendan Rodgers heating up over the last week, Castro's best path to playing time at second base appears to be closing up.

Castro is expected to see most of his work this season as a backup infielder, though his experience at all three outfield spots gives him an added layer of versatility. When given regular playing time, Castro has shown the ability to hit for contact at a high rate (.291 lifetime average, 22.2 percent strikeout rate), but a lack of power and speed limits his fantasy intrigue.
