2019 Fantasy Outlook
The 19-year-old out of Croatia was selected by the Spurs with the 19th overall pick in the 2019 Draft. At 6-foot-10 and 215 pounds with some shooting touch, Samanic projects as a stretch four at the NBA level. In 50 games and 23 starts last season for Union Olimpija, he averaged 8.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in 18.4 minutes. Samanic better demonstrated his skillset during the U18 Euro Championship A in 2018, where he posted 17.0 points (48.1 FG%, 47.4 3P%, 68.0 FT%), 7.7 rebounds, 1.8 blocks and 1.3 assists in just over 26 minutes per game across six appearances. Coach Gregg Popovich has plenty of other options at forward in 2019-20, so it's unlikely Samanic will be a regular part of the rotation, and there's a strong chance he'll spend time in the G League.

He parlayed his initial deal into an extension through the 2023-24 campaign, and overall, he averaged 9.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 23.0 minutes across seven appearances with Utah, including a 23-point, eight-rebound outing during a start against the Thunder on April 6. Samanic, along with Ochai Agbaji and any future draft picks, should be the headliners for Utah during Summer League.
