$Signed a two-year, $3.01 million contract with the Trail Blazers in July of 2023. Contract includes $2.22 million team option for 2025-26.
Personal Bio/PreCareer Summary
Rayan Rupert, born in Strasbourg, France, graduated from the INSEP Academy in France before pursuing professional basketball. From the 2019-20 season through the 2021-22 season, he played for Centre Federal in the French NM1 and appeared in FIBA Junior Team events. Before last season, he signed with the New Zealand Breakers. There, he started 18 of 31 appearances and averaged 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, 0.8 assists and 0.7 steals in 18.1 minutes. He posted season highs of 17 points, four threes, eight rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block. Rupert is a defense-first wing and hustles on both ends of the floor. His extensive wingspan and active hands create issues for opposing offenses whether he's on or off the ball. He's got plenty of upside to rack up both steals and blocks. Offensively, he's done well in transition and going to the basket, as he's fluid with the basketball in his hands and can finish over similarly-sized defenders with ease given his wingspan. Off-ball cuts are a significant part of Rupert's offensive repertoire. Rupert shares similarities to a stretched-out version of Isaac Okoro or Herbert Jones tilted more toward ballhandling and playmaking. He will likely begin his career off the bench as a defensive specialist who could occasionally be assigned to slow down an opposing player amid a fantastic scoring night. A more consistent jumpshot could turn Rupert into a starter.
Big night from downtown
GPortland Trail Blazers
November 2, 2024
Rupert recorded 14 points (5-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt), two rebounds, one block and one steal across 23 minutes off the bench during Friday's 137-114 loss to the Thunder.
ANALYSIS The 2023 second-round pick saw his biggest workload of the season as coach Chauncey Billups stuck with the hot hand from beyond the arc. Rupert had only 17 points combined in his four prior appearances, but he could see an uptick in minutes in the short term if Anfernee Simons (arm) is forced to miss any time after leaving Friday's contest midway through the fourth quarter after a hard fall following a dunk attempt.

Recent RotoWire Articles Featuring Rayan Rupert See More
Devin Booker has had some quiet outings recently but has a chance to shine against the Pelicans' shorthanded backcourt Monday. Dan Bruno offers his favorite DFS plays on DraftKings.
ANALYSIS Rupert appeared in 39 games, including 12 starts, for a Blazers team that dealt with a plethora of injuries during the 2023-24 season. However, Portland expects to be healthier in 2024-25, and if that's the case, the franchise would prefer to oversee Rupert's development in the G League, where he'd be able to play more minutes on a regular basis, rather than in the NBA where he'd be limited to a minor role off the bench. Rupert averaged 4.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in his 39 NBA appearances in 2023-24.
