DFS College Basketball: Tuesday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Tuesday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Today's college hoops slate is a big one. DraftKings is offering 10 matchups while FanDuel is giving us six.  The highest over/under on the board currently belongs to Missouri-Auburn, so that's where we'll begin today's preview.

Targets

Jeremiah Tilmon, F, Missouri ($7,400 DK, $5,800 FD)

A fascinating matchup. KenPom is projected a one-point victory for Missouri while Vegas likes Auburn by two and a half points (as of Monday evening). Either way, this game is expected to see the most points of any game on the slate so I'd strongly suggest taking a Tiger. I like Tilmon in this spot because Auburn's defense has been noticeably weaker against two-pointers, and inside scoring is where Tilmon excels. This is essentially the same matchup advantage Missouri had against South Carolina one week ago, and the senior was extremely productive. Tilmon has made the most two-point baskets on the team this season, leads the Tigers in rebounding and also boasts the highest offensive efficiency rating on the team. All in all, the 6-10 center offers considerable upside in a favorable matchup.

Courtney Ramey, G, Texas ($6,800 DK, $5,800 FD)

The Longhorns are expected to put up around 74 points tonight, one of the highest numbers on the slate. The Sooners' defense isn't bad, although one area where it's been noticeably vulnerable is three-point shooting. As one might guess, Ramey is easily the best three-point shooter for the Longhorns. Ramey also takes 22 percent of his team's shots when he's on the court, so he should see plenty of opportunities in tonight's contest.

Josh Primo, G, Alabama ($5,500 DK, $4,600 FD)

The five-star freshman started slower than expected, but he's really picked up the pace since conference season started. Through eight conference games, Primo is using 20 percent of possessions while making 48 percent of his three-point shots (18-of-37), the fourth-highest percentage in the SEC among qualified players. Alabama is projected to score the most points of any team in the common pool of games, so Primo has a chance to provide some value assuming he stays involved in the game.

DraftKings Exclusive

Jordan Goodwin, F, Saint Louis ($9,300)

Goodwin carries the second-highest salary on the board and I would argue he's still undervalued. Through his last four games, Goodwin is averaging 45 fantasy points and couldn't ask for a better matchup today. Dayton's defense is middle-of-the-pack in terms of Atlantic 10 standings, but the important note is that Dayton has struggled securing rebounds this season. As fate would have it, Saint Louis, led by Goodwin, is one of the best rebounding teams in the country. Goodwin leads the team in rebounding with over 11 boards per game and looks to go far above that number in tonight's contest. If you're looking for a player with a lower salary, Hasahn French ($6,600) is the Billikens' second-best rebounder so he should see a performance boost in this matchup as well. (Note: This is Saint Louis' first game since December 23rd due to COVID issues.)

Fades

Jair Bolden, G, Butler ($6,400 DK, $5,500 FD)

The Bulldogs are going up against the best defense in the Big East, so I'm avoiding Butler if at all possible. Bolden uses fewer than 20 percent of his team's possessions when on the court and, generally speaking, doesn't fill the stat sheet other than occasionally scoring double-digit points. Bolden's best skill is his three-point shooting, but unfortunately for him, the Huskies' defense is strong on the perimeter. In a different matchup, I could see Bolden offering some value on the FanDuel side of the equation, but I'm firmly passing on the senior today given the opponent combined with his inefficiency.

Austin Reaves, G, OKlahoma ($7,200 DK, $7,800 FD)

Speaking of strong defenses, the Longhorns enter today's game ranked eighth in the country in terms of defensive efficiency. A senior point guard like Reaves always has the potential to make me pay for passing on him, but ultimately I cannot ignore the caliber of defense that he's up against. Reaves is averaging around 26 fantasy points through his last three contests, and I'm not sold that he'll have much luck doing better down in Austin later tonight.

Brandon Boston, G, Kentucky ($6,800 DK, $5,600 FD)

Alabama's scorching hot, and everyone knows about its potent offensive attack, but don't look past its defense. Since conference play started, the Crimson Tide boast the best defense in the SEC in terms of adjusted efficiency. Boston concerns me in this spot because the five-star freshman has struggled with inconsistency throughout the season, and it's difficult to assume he'll have a good game against a strong Alabama defense. Boston played relatively well in his last two games, but they were both against two of the worst defenses in the SEC. Now seems like the perfect time to fade with his price going up. (Important side note: one area where Alabama is awful is allowing blocked shots on offense. This is noteworthy because Kentucky has Isaiah Jackson ($5,700 DK, $5,800 FD), and Jackson has the second-highest blocking rate in the entire country among all qualified players. Not a bad flier if you're looking for a player in that salary range.)
