DFS College Basketball: Saturday Preview

DFS College Basketball: Saturday Preview

This article is part of our DFS College Basketball series.

Because the slates vary widely between DraftKings and FanDuel, we'll deliver our selections for the three shared games  and then identify targets in the three site-specific contests separately. Let's take a quick look at what the oddsmakers have to say about Saturday's 4 p.m. EST slate.

Arizona State (-4) vs. Georgia O/U: 156.5
Arizona (-2) vs. Gonzaga O/U: 151
St. Mary's (-8.5) at California O/U: 125
Dayton (-16) vs. Drake O/U: 136.5 (DraftKings only)
Utah State (-0.5) at BYU O/U: 145 (DraftKings only)
Providence (-11.5) vs. Stony Brook O/U: 134 (FanDuel Only)

TOP PLAYERS

Anthony Edwards, Georgia (DK $8,400, FD $8,200) at Arizona State

The talented freshman is lighting it up for the Bulldogs on both sides of the ball. His 2.3 steals and 5.4 rebounds per game on defense are balanced by some impressive offensive weaponry, as he averages 20.8 points per game at a 42.5 percent conversion rate. He's one of the primary one-and-done candidates in the SEC and is helping make the 6-2 Bulldogs a relevant force in the conference.  While his FP average hovers in the low 30s, he's already demonstrated a lofty ceiling that can pop as high as 60 FP.

Remy Martin, Arizona State (DK $8,500, FD $7,900) at Georgia

While the Sun Devils' floor general isn't producing the assist totals you like to see from the position, his scoring ability and defensive prowess make up for that deficiency. With a 20-point-per game scoring average, he also plays the thief at a rate of almost three steals per game and isn't a bad rebounder either.  He's experienced a couple peaks and valleys over the first nine games, but overall he's making the most of his expanded role and is worth his lofty price tag.

Malik Fitts, St. Mary's (DK $7.800, FD $6,500) at California

FanDuel isn't as high on Fitts so he's an excellent target for that site. Fitts is the Gaels' everyday starter at the four and is on a stellar four-game run. During that span, the 6-8 junior recorded three double-doubles and a 21/8 line in the most recent game against Dayton. I went to Fitts over more recognizable games due to the favorable matchup against Cal. I'm not so thrilled about the Over/Under, but that won't stop Fitts from taking over this game.

Nico Mannion, Arizona (DK $7,400, FD $6,700) vs. Gonzaga

Mannion has come through on previous slates so I will once again tip my hat to the standout freshman guard who spearheads the Wildcats' offensive attack at the point.  A reliable source of assists, Mannion is also a force to be reckoned with when he's dialed in from beyond the arc.

Josh Green, Arizona (DK $7,000, FD $6,300) vs. Gonzaga

Green is back to full speed after battling strep throat last week. The five-star prospect out of IMG Academy is a DFS beast who produces in every category. In his first 11 games, the freshman averaged 12.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.7 steals. That scoring average is on an upward trend, so it's reasonable to assume he'll get every opportunity to raise that average against Gonzaga.

Also consider: Killian Tillie, Gonzaga (DK $6,800, FD $6,600), Rayshaun Hammonds, UGA (DK $8,000, FD $7,300)

VALUE PLAYS

Chase Jeter, Arizona (DK and FD, $5,200) vs. Gonzaga

If it feels like we're pinning our hopes on the Wildcats, you aren't mistaken.  There's a lot to like at almost every position, and the center spot is no exception. The Duke transfer has under-produced in his second full season at Arizona, and while he's yet to record that elusive double-double, his numbers are slowly creeping up in that direction. Gonzaga is a great rebounding team, but I think it'll properly motivate the 6-foot-10 center to muster a little more effort.

Rob Edwards, Arizona State (DK $5,100, FD $4,600) vs. Georgia

The  Cleveland State transfer is picking up where he left off last season as the team's starting off-guard and is at an excellent price relative to his production. Due to ASU's depth at guard, he'll sometimes fade in blowout contests, but I'm encouraged by the narrow point spread of this game and expect Edwards to log around 30 minutes.

Dylan Smith, Arizona (DK and FD. $4,700) vs. Gonzaga

I slide to the Wildcats once again with Smith, who looks like an old man compared to the youth surrounding him on this team. I went with Smith against Wake Forest earlier this month and it paid huge dividends with a 26.75 DKFP score, and he has the ability to pop that high when his three-point shot is humming.

Rodney Howard, Georgia (DK $3,100, FD $3,400) at Arizona

Howard stands out as one of the evening's best overall values based on his recent role as a starter in UGA's rotation.  With Amanze Nguzemi dealt an indefinite suspension for unspecified reasons, Howard is the only big man remaining on the team and one can expect that his price will rise as the season progresses. For now, you can grab him while he's cheap. We don't have a huge sample size for him, but based on usage alone he comes at a great value.

DAYTON vs. DRAKE (DRAFTKINGS)

Jalen Crutcher, Dayton ($7,000)

While one would be inclined to head Obi Toppin's way, I want to find a little bit more value from this game, and the Flyers' starting point guard is a great place to begin. The junior is coming off a 21/6/4 line against St. Mary's and his 6.3 assists per game is certain to give his fantasy-point totals a huge boost.

Roman Penn, Drake ($6,700)

Penn transferred to Drake from Siena and slid into a starting role after the required gap year. He's a little undersized at 5-11, but there's a lot to like from his production with the Bulldogs (a lot of Bulldogs on this slate!), as he's averaging 10.5 points, 5.3 assists and 4.3 rebounds to begin the season.

Trey Landers, Dayton ($5,700)

Landers tends to make his presence known all over the court but is firmly entrenched as the Flyers' No. 1 small forward.  With ample contribution as a scorer and rebounder, he's at a nice price point and should be considered a decent value candidate in your DraftKings builds.

UTAH STATE at BYU (DRAFTKINGS)

Justin Bean, Utah State ($8,600)

While your eyes will always gravitate to Sam Merrill when you think of Utah State, Bean is actually my favorite target for the Aggies today. You really can't argue with five consecutive games of 40 DKFP or with double-doubles in all but two games this season.  That's insane production, and he'll face a BYU team that ranks 224th in total rebound percentage. I plan to use Bean liberally. I also think he'll do well in neutralizing Yoeli Childs, which is why I'm hedging on an endorsement there.

Diogo Brito, Utah State ($6,600)

You'll often see Brito on the floor right away as he toggles between the two and three spots with the second unit, and his production largely depends on how well Abel Porter is shooting.  When Porter struggles, they slide Sam Merrill to the point, leaving Brito to fill the rest of the backcourt. It's been a mediocre beginning for Porter, so I think we will see a decent amount from Brito. Although he's a tad expensive, he should be a low-owned candidate.

GAME TO TARGET

Arizona (-2) vs. Gonzaga

While I like the Wildcats in this game,  Gonzaga has a lot of talent, with Filip Petrusev (DK $7,700, FD $7,000) and Joel Ayayi (DK $6,900, FD $6,400) leading the charge.  The game should stay close and competitive; use it as a tie-breaker when you're torn between targets.

GAME TO FADE

Providence (-11.5) vs. Stony Brook

You'll notice I didn't drill down into this game. It was intentional.  This game will be lopsided, and you can find similar (and better) value at just about every other game on the slate. So, other than taking a value flier, I don't see a reason to give this game much exposure.
