Will not play this season
Petras (shoulder) will not play in the 2023 season but will stick around the Iowa program to help the offense, Scott Dochterman of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Petras still has a COVID year to use in 2024 should he decide he wants to play football again, but it will likely be used somewhere other than Iowa. Petras is interested in coaching and his work on the sidelines this fall with the Hawkeyes could certainly help him in the future. Petras underwent shoulder surgery last fall.

2022 Fantasy Outlook
Petras is coming off a disappointing 2021 season for both himself as well as the largely stagnant offense around him. Petras ranked near the bottom of the Big Ten’s starting quarterbacks in most major statistical categories last season, including passing yards per game (156.7), completion percentage (57.3), yards per attempt (6.5) and passing touchdowns (10). Petras figures to operate in a similarly stale offensive scheme in 2022, but he will benefit from a healthy and more experienced offensive line combined with a largely returning corps of skill players (both of which should help curtail his abysmal 24 sacks taken and nine interceptions from last season). Still, the senior signal-caller’s overall production – and permanent job security – does not figure to improve much unless he makes significant improvements in his play this offseason.
