Afghanistan vs. West Indies: One-Off Test Preview

Afghanistan vs. West Indies: One-Off Test Preview

Match Details:

Series: Afghanistan vs. West Indies

Venue: Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow

Date: November 27, 2019

Time: 9:30 a.m. IST

Match Preview:

Afghanistan made a good comeback in the T20I series after getting completely whitewashed by West Indies in the ODI series. They won the T20Is by a 2-1 margin and would be eager to carry that momentum in their only Test match against the Caribbean outfit starting on Wednesday at Lucknow. As far as their form in this format is concerned, Afghanistan registered a terrific victory in the previous match against Bangladesh as skipper Rashid Khan starred with the ball. However, West Indies were completely bulldozed by a rampaging Indian side. There are a lot of things they need to improve in Tests but it should be an evenly matched contest against Afghanistan.

Weather Conditions:

Partially cloudy conditions will prevail on Wednesday while rain is expected on Thursday. Bright and sunny weather is in the forecast for the remaining three days.

Pitch Conditions:

The pitch at Lucknow will be a bit on the slower side than seen in the ODI and T20I series. The spinners are expected to dominate.

Probable Playing XI:

Afghanistan: Rashid Khan (c), Asghar Afghan, Ihsanullah Janat, Ibrahim Zadran, Javed Ahmadi, Rahmat Shah, Karim Janat, Qais Ahmed, Ikram Alikhiel (wk), Hamza Hotak, Nijat Masood.

West Indies: Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Roston Chase, Shane Dowrich

Top Picks:

Roston Chase (10 Cr)

He dominated with both bat and ball during the ODI series and is expected to do the same this time around. He is West Indies' best player of spin and a good spinner himself.

Jason Holder (10.5 Cr)

The West Indies skipper will play a crucial role with both bat and ball as well. He can be backed to do the damage with the ball and could end up scoring some handy runs as well.

Rashid Khan (9.5 Cr)

The Afghanistan skipper had an underwhelming T20I and ODI series with the ball but he was in sensational form during the Tests against Bangladesh. He could be back to his beastly best in this match.

Captaincy Options: Roston Chase, Jason Holder, Rashid Khan
