Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Purdy fell from QB6 in 2023 to QB13 last season, thanks to predictable regression and injuries to key players. Purdy’s YPA dropped from an obviously unsustainable 9.6, the second-highest mark this century, to a still-impressive 8.5, third in the league. Despite posting a career-high 75.8 on-target percentage (8th), his completion percentage dipped slightly to 65.9 (17th). He also lost yardage because the 49ers’ average yards after catch went from a league-high 6.5 in 2023 to 5.3 last year. In the red zone, Purdy regressed from a league-leading 29.7 TD percentage to a below-average 22.7 percent (23rd), costing him about five touchdowns. Injuries to Christian McCaffrey (13 missed games) and Brandon Aiyuk (10) perhaps made the backslide inevitable. The good news is that Purdy had career highs in rushing yards (323, 11th among QBs) and touchdowns (five, 6th). Continued rushing production and positive regression in the red zone would make a big impact for 2025. As will the return of McCaffrey, although Aiyuk’s rehab from ACL/MCL surgery may bleed into the upcoming season. The 49ers traded Deebo Samuel this offseason, in part because WR Jauan Jennings broke out last year. He’ll be the No. 1 WR if Aiyuk misses time, followed by 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, who finished his rookie year strong. And after consecutive 1,000-yard seasons, TE George Kittle is back with a four-year extension. A bounce-back into the Top 10 of fantasy QBs looks reasonable for Purdy. Read Past Outlooks

May practice Wednesday
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Purdy (toe) will be evaluated Wednesday to see if the quarterback will be able to practice this week, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Since aggravating a turf toe injury Week 4, Purdy hasn't mixed into any drills, but he resumed conditioning work on the side last Thursday, signaling that he's making progress in his recovery. He's missed four games in all due to the health concern (Weeks 2-3 and 5-6), with backup Mac Jones filling in well during Purdy's absence. If Purdy is able to practice Wednesday, he could be on a path to return to action this coming Sunday versus the Falcons.

A surgically repaired elbow had Purdy questionable entering last season, but he ultimately backed up his out-of-nowhere rookie campaign with another top-tier season, using the same formula that first led him to prominence -- intermediate throws that produce plenty of yards after the catch, combined with occasional precision strikes downfield. Purdy targeted receivers in the range of 10-19 yards on 27.9 percent of his attempts, second most in the league. His receivers’ work after the catch accounted for a league-high 29.8 percent of his yards on intermediate throws as he led the league with 1,615 YAC in that range. Just 8.3 percent of Purdy’s attempts went beyond 20 yards, but he completed a league-high 53.8 percent of those and had a 6:0 TD:INT ratio. All of that helped him lead the league in YPA at 9.6 -- the most since Kurt Warner in 2000 (9.9) and seventh most in NFL history -- while finishing fifth in passing yards (4,280) and third in TD passes (31). Supported by Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk, George Kittle and now first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, Purdy's yards after catch and big plays downfield should continue to pile up. The 24-year-old doesn’t run much, which limits his fantasy ceiling, but the combination of coach Kyle Shanahan’s offense and an arm that is stronger than perhaps perceived gives Purdy enough magic for another top-10 fantasy season.

Could be back Week 7
Purdy has "a chance" to return from his toe injury Week 7 against the Falcons, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.
ANALYSIS
Purdy will remain sidelined against the Buccaneers in Week 6 for a second consecutive game, which means he will have missed four of San Francisco's first six games. He has a chance to end his absence the following week against Atlanta. Once healthy, Purdy is expected to reclaim the starting role from Mac Jones, who is playing through knee and oblique injuries of his own.
