RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
The 25-year-old starting left end enters his contract year looking to build on a 2015 season that saw him total a career-high 67 tackles while playing 16 games for the first time his career. However, Gholston has yet to tally more than three sacks in any of his three campaigns, somewhat limiting his IDP value. He also faces stiff competition from fellow end Jacquies Smith, who's supplied 13.5 sacks over the last two seasons and looms behind him on the depth chart.
Gholston is one of six players competing to become a rotational end for the Bucs.
Gholston showed some flashes towards the end of his otherwise non-descript rookie season in 2013. He will figure into the mix at defensive end for the Bucs in 2014.
Gholston was selected by the Buccaneers with 126th overall pick in this year's draft. It will be interesting to see how the team will use him, as he doesn't seem to be a natural fit as a DE in a 4-3 system.
