ANALYSIS
Johnson, who spent this past offseason in Tampa Bay, finished the 2017 campaign on the Buccaneers' practice squad. The Tennessee product will battle with Antony Auclair and Alan Cross for slotting on the bottom of the depth chart this offseason.

After seeing action in 17 games with the Saints over his first two pro seasons, Johnson was eventually signed to the Bucs practice squad last Dec. 14 and on the active roster for the final game against the Panthers due to Charles Sims (pectoral) being placed on injured reserve. The University of Tennessee product is currently listed at the top of the fullback depth chart, but the Bucs may ultimately opt to go with H-back Alan Cross as their lead blocker. If Johnson does make the team, his touches figure to be too few and far between for him to have any tangible fantasy value.
The Saints' starting fullback the majority of the last two seasons, Johnson totaled 12 carries for 31 yards and seven receptions (on 10 targets) for 45 yards. With the Saints signing veteran John Kuhn at the start of training camp, Johnson will have stiff competition if he hopes to secure a roster spot. Even if he is named the starter again, with only one touchdown in the last two years, Johnson is merely an afterthought in most fantasy leagues.
Johnson will compete to be the starting fullback for the Saints. He started the first eight games of the 2014 season, managing 22 yards on eight carries and catching two passes for 15 yards and a touchdown, before succumbing to a season-ending knee injury. While most fullbacks in the league have little fantasy value, the Saints have not shied from featuring their fullback around the goal line, both on the ground and through the air. If Johnson can win the starting gig, he could potentially be used as a tight end/fullback hybrid in the passing game, since the Saints are now thin at tight end.
Johnson will compete for the starting fullback position with the Saints. Fullbacks have typically vultured a few touchdowns in the Saints offense, so Johnson could have some value in extremely touchdown-heavy leagues.
