2025 Fantasy Outlook
The 33-year-old journeyman re-signed with the Rams on a one-year deal after serving as Matthew Stafford's backup for most of last season. Garoppolo only played in the season finale with most of the starters on the bench, and he put up admirable numbers (27-for-41 passing for 334 yards, two touchdowns and one interception). With Stetson Bennett as the only other quarterback on the roster, there's little competition for Garoppolo to step into a fantasy relevant role if Stafford were to miss time. Read Past Outlooks

Not slated to play Saturday
Garoppolo is not in line to play in Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers, Eric Edholm of NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Given that top QB Matthew Stafford is still hampered by a back issue, it's no surprise that the Rams are playing it safe with their veteran backup, with Stu Jackson of the team's official site having previously relayed via coach Sean McVay that Garoppolo won't play in any preseason games. In that context, Stetson Bennett and Dresser Winn are available to handle signal-caller reps this weekend.

Garoppolo signed with the Rams in March to back up Matthew Stafford after a one-year stint in Las Vegas that saw him benched by Week 9. He actually threw the ball downfield more than usual last season (six-year high 8.1 average target depth), but it didn’t result in much good. At the time of his benching, Garoppolo led the league in interceptions and his 65.1 completion percentage was a career low with a minimum 90 attempts. If he gets on the field this year, he’ll likely revert to his usual game-manager role with little downfield passing and no rushing upside to speak of. While wideouts Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua are skilled after the catch, it doesn’t leave much room for Garoppolo to make a fantasy impact, even in two-QB leagues. Garoppolo, who turns 33 in November, also is suspended the first two games for violating the league’s performance-enhancing substances policy.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Week 1 starting odds increasing?
Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports Matthew Stafford remains unable to participate in practices due to his back injury, a development that seemingly increases the chances Garoppolo opens the regular season as the Rams' starting quarterback.
ANALYSIS
Barshop reports Stafford remains in a holding pattern due to the aggravated disk that prevented him from participating in training-camp practices as well as a joint session with the Saints on Thursday. Stafford tested his back out in a 68-pass throwing session last Saturday that he didn't respond well enough to, and another is on tap for this coming Saturday. Another failure to progress to practice participation on Stafford's part will leave Garoppolo that much closer to starting the season as the No. 1 quarterback, a job he'd be presumably ready for given his considerable experience and the fact he now has had more than a year in head coach Sean McVay's offensive system.
