Hopkins finished the 2023 regular season with five receptions for 78 yards.
ANALYSIS
The majority of Hopkins' limited production came when thrust into a more prominent role in Week 18 with Tyler Higbee sitting out with a shoulder injury. Hopkins secured two catches for 47 yards in the contest, but he spent the majority of the year taking just a handful of snaps per game on offense, including zero in the Rams' playoff loss to the Lions. Hopkins is an unrestricted free agent in 2024, and while Higbee is feared to have suffered a torn ACL in the aforementioned playoff game, rookie Davis Allen and Hunter Long (knee) both remain under contract for next season, and Allen in particular flashed plenty of promise in Higbee's and Long's absences. Even if Higbee isn't ready for the start of the 2024 campaign, it's highly uncertain Hopkins returns as the fourth tight end on the roster given his light production in 2023.

With the Rams losing pass catchers left and right all through 2022, Hopkins was given his first extended taste of regular-season run, and while his 7-109-0 line on 11 targets didn't turn many heads, he at least stepped into any role at all, something he failed to do in his first two years in the league. Tyler Higbee again will enter this season as L.A.'s primary tight end, and with Higbee's production continuing to shine - he's coming off career highs in catches (72) and targets (108) - Hopkins likely will see another year of scant production, barring an injury, as he enters the final year of his rookie contract.
Hopkins spent the majority of his sophomore campaign on the bench, playing just 56 regular season snaps. A breakout performance in Super Bowl LVI (four receptions for 47 yards) gave fantasy managers a taste of the raw talent that led the Rams to take Hopkins as a fourth-round pick, and his proven route running ability at Purdue could lead to more opportunities for production in his third season in the league, especially if Tyler Higbee goes down with injury again.
Viewed as a project after improving each year of his collegiate career at Purdue, Hopkins played just five games and only two offensive snaps last year as a rookie. However, there could be more opportunities in 2021. He's a solid route runner, and there are passing-catching snaps available after Gerald Everett signed with the Seahawks during free agency. It's still probably unlikely Hopkins makes much of a fantasy splash this season, but if fellow tight end Tyler Higbee were to miss time, Hopkins could see an increased role in the passing attack.
An excellent route runner who improved each year during his collegiate career at Purdue, Hopkins bolsters an already impressive Los Angeles tight end corps. Selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, the pick suggests head coach Sean McVay's increased use of 12 personnel late last season could continue this year. Additionally, with tight end Gerald Everett in the final campaign of his rookie deal, the Rams could move on from their 2017, second-round selection -- especially if Hopkins impresses as a rookie. It's still important to note that Hopkins doesn't project as a reliable blocker at this stage of the game, so playing time could be scarce this year with Tyler Higbee established, Johnny Mundt a sound blocker and Everett in a make-or-break season.
