2026 Fantasy Outlook
Milton spent last season backing up Dak Prescott after being acquired by the Cowboys in an offseason trade. The 2024 sixth-round pick hasn’t started in the NFL, though Milton played most of the 2024 season finale with the Patriots and threw for 241 yards with two total TDs. The Cowboys signed Sam Howell in the offseason, so Milton may face competition for the second spot on the QB depth chart. If Prescott were to get hurt, whoever wins the job between Milton and Howell would have some fantasy upside while throwing to Dallas’ star WR duo of CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens. Prescott, who is entering his age-33 season, has missed 25 games due to injuries in the past three even years compared to one absence in the last three odd years heading into the 2026 campaign. 2024
A 2024 sixth-round pick of the Patriots, Milton started one game as a rookie and made a big impression Week 18 against the Bills. In need of an understudy with some upside, the Cowboys acquired Milton to back up Dak Prescott, who was limited to eight games last season due to a torn hamstring. Prescott's injury history creates a plausible path to significant snaps for Milton in Dallas, but he still has to demonstrate his cannon of an arm has enough accuracy to be a reliable NFL quarterback.

Set to compete with Howell
Milton is set to battle Sam Howell for the second spot on Dallas' quarterback depth chart, per Todd Archer of ESPN.com.
ANALYSIS
Milton worked as Dak Prescott's top backup in 2025 after being acquired in a trade from the Patriots. The big-armed young quarterback struggled when called upon, throwing one touchdown pass and two interceptions across 24 regular-season pass attempts in 2025. Dallas gave Howell $2 million in guaranteed money, so Howell is expected to get an opportunity to unseat Milton as Dak's backup. Howell has won only five of 18 career regular-season starts.
