In his first year with the Broncos, Williams recorded 44 tackles, seven pass deflections, one sack and one interception while starting in eight of 14 games. The veteran cornerback proved he can be an effective contributor on a strong defense. Williams is poised to fill the backup role behind fellow cornerback Damarri Mathis, but his standout performances during training camp thus far could improve his chances of taking the No. 1 spot opposite of Patrick Surtain. Nonetheless, the 32-year-old provides great depth to Denver's formidable defensive backfield.
Williams has quietly become one of the league's top slot corners since taking over the role with San Francisco in 2017. The 28-year-old posted strong physical stats for his position, racking up 51 tackles, four forced fumbles and a sack to go along with his two interceptions. Those totals look even better when factoring in that he only sees the field in nickel and lighter packages. The 49ers picked up the option on Williams' contract, so he will be manning the slot for the 2020 season.
Williams spent the majority of the season as the 49ers' slot corner, racking up 45 tackles and no interceptions over 14 games. The 28-year-old figures to serve a similar role even with the addition of Jason Verrett, but he will have to overcome a surprise minor knee surgery in order to be ready for Week 1.
Williams had his first season with the 49ers in 2017 and looked like a solid cornerback, making 54 tackles, one sack, five pass breakups and one interception. His opportunities may take a hit this season, however, as the Niners picked up Richard Sherman and Jimmie Ward is healthy. Fantasy owners shouldn't touch Williams, but they should be quick on the trigger of there are injuries ahead of him.
Williams is highly unlikely to beat out Joe Haden or Tramon Williams for a starting cornerback role, but should retain his current job as the extra defensive back in nickel packages. He was more impressive than the highly-touted rookie Justin Gilbert in 2014, and will look to carry that momentum into the upcoming season.
