Rest-of-Season Projections
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Jones is back in Detroit for his age-33 season after a two-year detour to Jacksonville, where he finished fourth on the team in targets (81) last season while playing 16 games. He managed only 6.9 and 6.5 YPT in his two seasons with the Jags, following five consecutive years of 8.2 or higher with the Lions. It's concerning that he didn't improve in his second year with the Jaguars even after QB Trevor Lawrence improved, and it could be that Jones is simply over the hill. He's now on a one-year, $3 million contract, but his chances at a lot of playing time improved when the NFL announced a six-game suspension for 2022 first-round pick Jameson Williams. The Lions will need some combo of Jones, Josh Reynolds and Kalif Raymond to step up early in the season, assuming they want to keep Amon-Ra St. Brown in the slot most of the time. Read Past Outlooks

No targets again
Jones was not targeted with a pass during Sunday's 20-6 win over Atlanta.
ANALYSIS
While Jones continued to log at least 39 percent of the offensive snaps, he has yet to receive a target since his disappointing performance in Week 1. This time, all 29 of Jared Goff's pass attempts to non-running backs went to Amon-Ra St. Brown, Sam LaPorta and Kalif Raymond. Possibly washed at 33 years old, Jones will look to turn back the clock in Thursday's Week 4 matchup with the Packers.

With veteran breakout candidates all falling flat, a pair of NFC North tight ends are rapidly emerging as the league's new stars at the position.

The Dolphins rightfully get most of the headlines this week, but De'Von Achane might not be the only emerging rookie star in a high-flying AFC offense.

Juan Carlos Blanco has the latest Sunday morning updates on a Week 3 injury report where the quarterback position takes center stage.

Christian Kirk should maintain momentum against a Houston defense without two of its top three corners, including their slot defender.

Believe it or not, 2021 marked Jones' second straight year with a career high in targets. The
problem? It happened in a putrid Jacksonville offense that completed 59.8 percent of passes
(28th) for 6.1 YPA (29th). By that standard, Jones' 60.8 percent catch rate and 6.9 YPT don't
look terrible. It's still not good, of course, and there's plenty of cause for concern as he now enters his age-32 season with a presumed coaching upgrade (Urban Meyer out, Doug
Pederson in) but also more competition for targets. The Jags signed Christian Kirk and Zay
Jones to sizable contracts and also brought back late-2021 contributor Laquon Treadwell on a
smaller deal. It's not a great sign that Treadwell, the 2016 first-round bust, outproduced Jones
down the stretch last year. Still, Jones is easily the most accomplished Jacksonville receiver,
and a return to his Detroit level of production is possible if QB Trevor Lawrence makes a Year 2
leap.
