2025 Fantasy Outlook
Stafford’s 2024 closely resembled his previous year, though he fell from QB15 to QB19 in fantasy. His on-target percentage was basically the same (72.0), and his average target depth (7.7 yards) was exactly the same. His YPA dropped only slightly (from 7.6 to 7.3), though he threw four fewer TDs in one extra game. He also curtailed an early season penchant for interceptions, going from 9:7 TD:INT in the first nine games to 11:1 over his last seven. This is pretty much what Stafford is now. He’s fine as a second quarterback in two-QB leagues but doesn’t threaten to do anything more. The Rams released WR Cooper Kupp but signed Davante Adams, which perhaps will help Stafford’s efficiency, and Puka Nacua is a strong No. 1 target. Sean McVay is still around to call plays, and while he remains among the best in the league at it, he's put more emphasis on the Kyren Williams-led rushing attack and less emphasis on Stafford's arm the past couple years. Health has long been an issue for Stafford, even more so now at age 37, and he doesn't add rushing stats even when he's at full strength. Read Past Outlooks

Rams taking things slowly
Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay said Monday, after Stafford (back) returned to practice and took part in 11-on-11 drills, that the team has "no updates" on the veteran quarterback's health and are "going to keep it a day, and really a week at a time," Cameron DaSilva of USA Today reports.
ANALYSIS
While it's certainly encouraging to see Stafford back on the practice field for the first time since June minicamp, and taking part in team drills at that, McVay cautioned that the 37-year-old is still doing "everything in his power" to get back and called it a "very fluid situation that demands flexibility." The Rams will take a cautious approach to ramping up Stafford's activity level as he works his way back from a lingering disc injury in his back, so after he was a full participant Monday it wouldn't be surprising to see him get rest as the week continues. "It was great to be able to see [Stafford] out there today," McVay said, "and we'll see how this afternoon goes, and tomorrow." Stafford still has nearly three weeks to get healthy in time for Week 1 against the Texans on Sun., Sept. 7, but per Brock Vierra of SI, McVay declined to comment Monday on whether he still expects the veteran quarterback to be ready for the regular-season opener. DaSilva confirms that Stafford won't be in consideration for Saturday's preseason finale against the Browns, which is no surprise.

Stafford bounced back somewhat from an injury-riddled 2022 campaign but still was only QB15 in fantasy last season. That might be his ceiling at this point, though in his last six games he averaged 20.6 fantasy points. Prorated to a full season, that would place him third among QBs. In that stretch he threw 15/3 TD/INT with 8.0 YPA, compared to 9/8 TD/INT with 7.3 YPA in his first nine games. The biggest difference was his red-zone TD rate, which jumped from an absurdly low 13.9 percent to an above-average 28.6. That likely will normalize around league average (23.5 percent) this year, but if his 71.5 percent on-target rate (23rd) doesn't improve or if he doesn't increase his 7.7 average target depth (15th), he's unlikely to be much more than a middling fantasy QB. And that's with good health, which can't be assumed for the 36-year-old, who adds nothing on the ground (65 rushing yards last year in 15 games). Stafford has a solid pair of wide receivers in Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua, and No. 3 wideout Demarcus Robinson came on late last season. Running back Kyren Williams gives the Rams a balanced offense, and Sean McVay's still calling plays, so Stafford at least still has plenty of fantasy value in two-QB leagues.

Another workout set for Saturday
Stafford, who remains sidelined by a back injury, will work out Saturday morning per head coach Sean McVay, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The aggravated disk in Stafford's back prevented him from practicing during training camp, and the veteran's status for Week 1 therefore is getting increasingly clouded. McVay confirmed Thursday that all eyes will be on whether Stafford responds to Saturday's workout better than he did to last Saturday's 68-pass session, one he was able to complete without limitations but that also then caused him residual effects a couple of days later.
