Rest-of-Season Projections
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Smith made plenty of noise as a rookie third-round pick in 2024, posting 54 tackles, seven pass defenses (including two interceptions) and three forced fumbles across 13 regular-season games. He also proved to be a consistent playmaker during his college days at Georgia, and he's potentially set to add some safety duties to his profile this season after working primarily as a slot corner in 2024. The Buccaneers invested a third-round pick this April in Smith, who posted 140 tackles, including 21.5 for loss and five sacks, eight interceptions (including a pick-six) and a pair of forced fumbles over a 51-game college career at West Virginia and Georgia. The promising rookie will have the luxury of learning from the star safety tandem of Jordan Whitehead and Antoine Winfield, and while the veteran duo will block his path to meaningful snaps, Smith should begin laying a foundation for future IDP success.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could shift from nickel to safety
GM Jason Licht said Monday that the Buccaneers are considering moving Smith to safety full time in 2025, Scott Smith of the team's official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith played primarily as a nickel cornerback in his rookie regular season, with 589 of his 672 defensive snaps coming in that role. The 2024 third-round draft pick could slot into a starting role if his move to safety sticks, as 2024 starting strong safety Jordan Whitehead remains unsigned and is recovering from a neck injury.
