2025 Fantasy Outlook
Samberg reached the 20-point mark for the first time in his career despite being limited to 60 regular-season appearances. Part of his success can be attributed to the Jets' overall play, but Samberg stepped up in his third full season, particularly as a steadying influence. It's unlikely he blossoms much more offensively, but he is a virtual lock as a top-four defenseman who can chip in some points while adding 100-plus blocked shots and a plus-minus rating that is heavily on the positive side. Samberg is the type of player who can be an option in the deepest of fantasy formats, especially those that count blocks, but the 20-25 point range is likely his peak. Read Past Outlooks

Inks three-year extension
Samberg signed a three-year, $17.25 million contract with the Jets on Wednesday, Murat Ates of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
After appearing in a career-high 78 regular-season games with Winnipeg during the 2023-24 season, Samberg was limited to just 60 regular-season appearances last year, but his efficiency improved in most areas. The 26-year-old logged six goals, 14 assists, 120 blocked shots, 56 hits, 26 PIM and a plus-34 rating while averaging 21:08 of ice time. The blueliner should continue to play a prominent role for Winnipeg over the next several years.

Never known as much of an offensive threat, Samberg has developed into a steady, stay-at-home defender for the Jets. He did produce a career-high 18 points in 78 regular-season games this past year, but Samberg's main contributions came in his own zone. Still just 25 years of age, it's reasonable to expect further growth from the Minnesota native, but it almost certainly won't be enough to generate fantasy value, especially when you take into account Samberg's middling numbers in the hit and block departments.

Latest Fantasy Rumors

Looking for $6 million deal
Samberg and the Jets have filed their contract numbers ahead of Wednesday's hearing, and the blueliner is looking for $6 million on a one-year deal, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Samberg reached the 20-point threshold for the first time last season, but it certainly doesn't seem like enough to justify a $6 million payday. While the two sides can still finalize a deal before the hearing starts, the two sides are reportedly about $3.5 million apart. As such, coming to terms in the next few days could be somewhat complicated.
