Dream11 Fantasy KBO: Bears vs Giants

This article is part of our Dream11 Fantasy KBO series.

Doosan Bears (47-36-2) vs Lotte Giants (40-39-1)

Wednesday, August 19th, 5:30 AM EDT

Projected Starters

RHP Young Ha Lee (3-7, 5.25 ERA) vs RHP Adrian Sampson (3-7, 7.20 ERA)

Game Preview

The Bears remain very much alive in the playoff race and currently sit in fourth place of the standings with a 47-36-2 record, but they've been rather average of late with a 5-4-1 record over their last 10 contests. Meanwhile, the Giants have also posted the same mark over their last 10 games but seem to be trending in the wrong direction over the last few weeks and have fallen all the way down to seventh place. The pitching matchup here doesn't offer very interesting options, but Young Ha Lee certainly looks like the better alternative due to his superior 5.25 ERA against Sampson, who has a 7.20 ERA and allowed six runs in just one inning in his previous outing.

Injuries

Doosan Bears

Chris Flexen - Out - Foot

8/17 10:03 PM IST - Flexen (foot) is not expected to pitch again until September at the earliest, according to chosun.com. Flexen continues to work his way back from a broken foot, and it looks like he still has several steps to go in his recovery.

Duk Joo Ham - 10-Day IL - Elbow

8/6 3:39 PM IST - Ham was placed on the injured list Thursday because of left elbow pain, per mksports.co.kr. The southpaw will enter the IL with 10 saves to his name this

Duk Joo Ham - 10-Day IL - Elbow

8/6 3:39 PM IST - Ham was placed on the injured list Thursday because of left elbow pain, per mksports.co.kr. The southpaw will enter the IL with 10 saves to his name this season. Ham did struggle recently though, giving up five runs through 0.2 innings against the Dinos. Doosan added Myung Joon Yoon back to the team roster.

Hyung Bum Lee - 10-Day IL - Elbow

8/14 3:36 PM IST - Lee was placed on the injured list with right elbow pain, per Nam Jik Ha of the Yonhap News Agency. The 26-year-old will look to rest and regroup following a dismal three months. It is unclear when Lee got hurt, but an elbow injury certainly has not helped him with his 8.02 ERA across 23 games.

Yong Chan Lee - Out - Elbow

6/4 2:49 PM IST - Lee will undergo Tommy John surgery and is expected to miss at least a year, Daniel Kim of DKTV reports. Lee has started regularly for Doosan since 2018, but his 2020 season will come to an early and abrupt end as a result of his elbow injury. It remains to be seen who will enter the rotation in Lee's place, as the Giants have only needed five starting pitchers to date.

Se Hyuk Park - Out - Not Injury Related

8/15 3:32 PM IST - Park was demoted from Doosan's first team, Nam Jik Ha of the Yonhap News Agency reports. Bears manager Tae Hyoung Kim cited inconsistent offense from the 30-year-old as to why he got sent down as Park is hitless in five of his last seven starts. Sang Ho Chung is back with Doosan's first team.

Lotte Giants

Seung Heon Lee - 10-Day IL - Forehead

6/16 9:13 PM IST - Lee (forehead) was cleared to resume working out with the Giants on Tuesday, Yonhap News Agency reports. Lee has been on the shelf since May 17, when he was removed from his start against Hanwha after taking a line drive to the forehead. The right-hander was diagnosed with a microfracture in his forehead, but he was fortunate to avoid surgery and looks to have progressed well in his recovery over the past month. Lee expects to increase the intensity of his workouts over the next several days, but it's uncertain when or if he'll return to the Giants' active roster. The Giants no longer have an opening in the rotation for Lee with Adrian Sampson having since rejoined the team in May after completing his quarantine upon returning from North America.

Top Picks From Each Team

Jose Fernandez, Bears: Fernandez might have fallen a bit in the MVP race behind Mel Rojas and Jung Hoo Lee, but the first baseman continues to be an impressive threat at the plate. Fernandez is slashing .339/.385/.357 with a .742 OPS in 56 at-bats this month.

Hoon Jung, Giants: Jung is hitting .318 with a .467 on-base percentage when facing the Doosan Bears this season, and that should be enough reason to give him a captaincy role ahead of this contest. For users attempting to assemble a Giants-based lineup, however, Chi Hong Ahn and Dae Ho Lee are also excellent captaincy choices.

Captaincy Options

  1. Jose Fernandez
  2. Jae Il Oh
  3. Jae Hwan Kim
  4. Soo Bin Jung
