Virna Jandiroba

Fades following quick start
October 30, 2021
Jandiroba lost to Amanda Ribas via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 267 on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
Things were looking good for Jandiroba following a stellar first round, but it was all downhill from there. Virna managed to land a takedown in the opening frame and parlay it into 3:06 worth of control time. She also scored a knockdown of Ribas in the final seconds of the round. Yet, when Round 2 began, Jandiroba's energy level dropped, and Ribas was in control the rest of the way. As good as Jandiroba is on the mat, she's 33 years of age and has just a single knockout victory in nearly 20 professional fights. The odds are against her going on any sort of significant run moving forward.

Gets right back in win column
June 19, 2021
Jandiroba defeated Kanako Murata via TKO (doctor's stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It was an excellent response from Jandiroba on the heels of her unanimous decision loss to Mackenzie Dern last December. An elite mat specialist, Jandiroba displayed improved striking and aggressiveness on the feet in this fight, but it was a deep armbar in Round 1 which left Murata compromised for the rest of the bout and eventually caused the doctor's stoppage. This goes in the record books as the first knockout victory of Jandiroba's MMA career. Her previous 13 stoppage victories had all come via submission. Jandiroba is such a talented submission artist that even an average striking game would give her a chance against most anyone in the division.

Drops tight decision in Vegas
December 12, 2020
Jandiroba lost to Mackenzie Dern via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 256 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Jandiroba didn't emerge with the victory she was looking for, but she showed pretty well in this fight. Both she and Dern are submission specialists by trade, but this one quickly broke down into a wild brawl on the feet. Jandiroba managed to land more than her fair share of strikes, but it was Dern who connected with the harder shots. Jandiroba -- like Dern -- looks awkward and uncomfortable on the feet, but she's so good on the mat that she will be a legitimate threat to most any woman in the division if she is able to get her striking to just an average level. The Brazilian has fought considerably better than her 2-2 record with the UFC would lead you to believe. She's an easy top-ten strawweight at this point.
