Remains undefeated as pro
October 31, 2020
Mitchell defeated Andre Fili via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 30-27) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Mitchell continued to lean on his wrestling in order to pick up his fifth UFC victory in as many tries. Facing an opponent who does virtually all his offensive work on the feet, Mitchell managed to secure 7-of-13 takedown attempts. Those seven successful tries led to a whopping 10:12 worth of control time, and that was more than enough to swing the judges' decision in Mitchell's favor. It was nice to see Mitchell put forth a strong effort here, as Fili was by far the best opponent he has faced to date. Mitchell's lack of power (he doesn't have a knockout win in his career) figures to come back to bite him at some point down the road, but it hasn't happened yet. The striking can always be refined with more time in the gym, and he has plenty of it. Mitchell turned just 26 years of age earlier this month.
Headed back to Octagon
August 25, 2020
Mitchell will face off against Andre Fili in a featherweight matchup at a UFC event October 31, reports.
Mitchell is coming off a dominating display in his last fight, deafeating Charles Rosa via unanimous decision in May. Mitchell will face a stiff test to continue his perfect record, as Fili is coming off a win of his own in June. Both fighters stand at 5-foot-9, but Fili will come into the fight with a four-inch reach advantage on Mitchell.
Dominates in UFC 249 victory
May 9, 2020
Mitchell defeated Charles Rosa via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-25, 30-24) at UFC 249 on Saturday in Jacksonville.
It was one of the most dominant mat performances in recent memory. Mitchell clamped on to Rosa just seconds after the opening bell rang and never let go. He was credited with five submission attempts and seven passes. He also landed his only two takedown attempts. Any normal opponent would have tapped out on multiple occasions in this one, but Rosa somehow managed to see the final bell. Mitchell's mat skills are elite and his pace and cardio are exceptional. He's also just 25 years of age. "Thug Nasty" is a legitimate threat to anyone at 145 pounds.
Lined up for UFC 249
April 23, 2020
Mitchell has signed a fight agreement to face Charles Rosa at UFC 249 on May 9 at a yet-to-be-determined location, he disclosed via his personal Instagram account.
This featherweight matchup was originally supposed to happen at UFC Oklahoma City on May 2, but that turned out to be one of many events cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The UFC remains determined to be one of the first sports to return to action, and while the May 9 event doesn't have an official location, it seems most likely to go down in the state of Florida. Should this event go on as planned, Mitchell appears in line to enter as the betting favorite. He's currently listed at roughly (-190) as of Thursday morning.
Pegged for UFC Oklahoma City
March 3, 2020
Mitchell will battle Charles Rosa at UFC Oklahoma City on May 2.
Mitchell has gotten off to a great start in his UFC career, collecting three consecutive victories. Rosa has traded off wins and losses in his six UFC bouts, earning a victory via submission in his last fight. Mitchell carries a one-inch advantage in both height and reach into the bout, which figures to feature a combination of punches and mat work.
