Dominates in return from layoff
Nurmagomedov defeated Cody Stamann via submission (guillotine choke) at 0:47 of Round 1 at UFC 270 on Saturday in Anaheim.
ANALYSIS
Nurmagomedov isn't paid by the hour, and he thus wasted no time in dispatching Stamann in his first fight since October 2020. Said hammered Cody on the feet in the opening moments of the bout, and that forced the latter to try to get the fight to the ground. Nurmagomedov was waiting for him, however, and quickly clamped on a beautiful "ninja" guillotine choke. Stamann realized he was done and tapped out almost immediately. Nurmagomedov had become a forgotten man at 135 pounds due to how long he was on the sidelines, but this is a guy with serious, serious skills who is a legitimate threat at bantamweight moving forward. Expect Said to do whatever is necessary to get back in the Octagon as quickly as possible following his quick night at the office in this one. He'll also take home a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts here.

Makes quick work of opponent
Nurmagomedov defeated Mark Striegl via KO (punches) at 0:51 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Abu Dhabi.
ANALYSIS
Nurmagomedov began the fight on the backfoot looking for a counter shot and it wasn't long before Striegel walked directly into a left hook while trying to close the distance. Genrally thought of as a flashy fighter, it was nice to see Nurmagomedov come into this fight with a read based on his opponent and execute to perefection. He remains perfect in the Octagon and improves to 14-2 in professional MMA as a result of the victory.

ANALYSIS
It's unclear at this time exactly what weight class this will be contested at or where the event will be held, though it's rumored to be on the UFC's next trip to Fight Island in Abu Dhabi. Nurmagomedov last competed in December of 2019, losing a unanimous decision to Raoni Barcelos. He had picked up wins in each of his first two UFC bouts prior to that.
