Comes through after missing weight
May 1, 2021
Carolina defeated Poliana Botelho via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's a huge victory for Carolina and was the right decision. Of course, the win has to be taken with a grain of salt since Carolina missed weight by 2.5 pounds on Friday morning. Carolina didn't do much of anything offensively throughout the course of the fight, but she did control Botelho from a positional standpoint in each of the final two rounds, and that was enough to earn the judges' call. A product of Dana White's Contender Series in Brazil, Carolina has now alternated wins and losses in her first three UFC bouts. It's difficult to see how Carolina will continue to succeed given the fact she has difficult generating any sort of offense. Her wins will have to be like this one: slow and grinding.
Fight still on
April 30, 2021
Carolina still appears set to take on Botelho, per Dana White.
There didn't seem to be much doubt about this outcome but any questions can now be put to rest. Carolina remains a betting underdog of about +200 to earn the victory Saturday.
Misses weight
April 30, 2021
Carolina came in 2.5 pounds over the 126-pound weight limit for Saturday's flyweight bout versus Poliana Botelho, reports.
Carolina's fight seems likely to carry on as scheduled, but her pocketbook will likely be significantly lighter than it would have been if she made weight. Official confirmation of whether or not the fight is still on should surface in the near future.
Set for May 1 return
March 31, 2021
Carolina will take on Poliana Botelho in a flyweight match at the UFC's event on May 1, Raphael Marinho of reports.
Carolina will be Botelho's third opponent for the May 1 card, replacing Mayra Bueno Silva (back) after she initially replaced Ji Yeon Kim. The Muay Thai specialist, who is coming off a six-month medical suspension, will get a chance to improve her record with the UFC from 1-1.
Gets six-month medical suspension
July 22, 2020
Carolina has been handed a 180-day suspension or until she is cleared of her left knee injury by an MRI, reports.
Carolina's suspension carries a minimum of 30 days and 21 without contact following her submission via kneebar at Fight Island last Saturday. If she requires the full six months, Carolina wouldn't return to the Octagon until late January of 2021.
