Morozov lost to Umar Nurmagomedov via technical submission (rear-naked choke) at 3:39 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Island 8 on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Morozov surrendered a takedown around the two minute mark in the first round, but showed excellent resolve, as he was able to shake Nurmagomedov off his back and get the fight back to the feet. Neither man was able to land much on consequence standing up, and Morozov gave up another takedown late in the round. Morozov ate a huge head kick to open Round 2, but was able to withstand a sudden rush from his opponent and eventually clear out the cobwebs. He ate another body kick and escaped another takedown, but it was clear he was wearing down. At roughly the midway point, Nurmagomedov earned another takedown and smoothly transitioned to the back, where he sunk in the choke. Morozov refused to tap, but was out cold in short order.

ANALYSIS
The UFC is taking few chances with this card, as Morozov is set to serve as a backup plan in case anything happens with the proposed catchweight matchup between Casey Kenney and Nathaniel Wood.
