Jamie Pickett

Breaks brief losing streak
October 23, 2021
Pickett defeated Laureano Staropoli via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
In a battle between two fighters who had combined to lose their past five fights, it was Pickett who pulled the upset. It wasn't particularly close, either. Neither man was all that effective in the striking department, as Pickett landed 58 total attempts compared to just 43 from Staropoli. The grappling aspect was a different story, as Pickett landed both of his takedown attempts while Staropoli connected on just 1-of-9 tries. Eight of Pickett's 11 career victories prior to Saturday had come via knockout, so it was nice to see him implement his wrestling game. The victory should ensure Pickett remains a member of the UFC roster. The same can't be said for Staropoli.

Staropoli bout rescheduled
October 6, 2021
Pickett's scheduled middleweight matchup against Laureano Staropoli has been re-booked for the UFC event set to take place Oct. 23, MMAJunkie.com reports.
While initial reports suggested that Pickett may have tested positive for COVID-19, he revealed in a later Instagram post that it was, in fact, once of his coaches. The team will now have to quarantine for 10 days before reconvening in Vegas later this month. Pickett was set to be a betting underdog of approximately (+180) for this matchup.
Off card after COVID-19 test
October 5, 2021
Pickett will not fight against Laureano Staropoli on Saturday after testing positive for COVID-19, AgFight.com reports.
Pickett was hoping to find his first UFC win this weekend. He most recently lost to Jordan Wright by TKO back in May. It doesn't appear the UFC will try to find a short notice replacement for Staropoli, so they may try to rebook this bout for a later date.
Draws Staropoli in October
June 27, 2021
Pickett will take on Laureano Staropoli in a middleweight matchup at the UFC event scheduled for Oct. 9, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
Pickett appears to be getting what might be his last chance in the UFC after starting his run with the company with back-to-back losses. He faces a fellow fighter down on his luck in Staropoli who is riding a three-fight losing streak. Pickett will enter with an astounding nine-inch reach advantage that he'll use to help keep the striking of Staropoli at bay. As is usually the case with Pickett, he'll be a major threat for an early stoppage, but the tide could quickly turn if he expends all his energy looking for a finish.
Still searching for first UFC win
May 15, 2021
Pickett lost to Jordan Wright via TKO (punches) at 1:04 of Round 1 at UFC 262 on Saturday in Houston.
Pickett has now fought twice since earning his contract on Dana White's Contender Series last August and has been dominated in both bouts. He lasted just 64 seconds on Saturday. After aggressively pushing forward and tying Wright up along the fence, Pickett ate countless unanswered elbows to the side of his head and was never able to recover. Pickett has legitimate power and is explosive in short spurts, but the early returns regarding the rest of his game have been poor. There is no guarantee he gets a third opportunity with the company after this effort.
Tabbed for May fight
March 8, 2021
Pickett will fight Jordan Wright in a middleweight bout at UFC 262 on May 15, MMAJunkie.com reports.
Pickett had a rough UFC debut back in December, losing via unanimous decision to Tafon Nchukwi at UFC Fight Night. Wright is looking to bounce back as well after losing via KO to Joaquin Buckley in November. Both fighters are 6-foot-2, but Pickett's 80-inch reach is a three-inch advantage over Wright.
