Della Maddalena defeated Ange Loosa via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series. After the show, he was one of five fighters to be awarded an official UFC contract.
Rarely does a fighter get to showcase the entirety of their skillset in one fight, but that seemed to be the case here for the Australia native. Della Maddalena proved capable in several complex grappling exchanges early, and on the feet, he was even better. The welterweight fighter switched stances with ease, fired off hard counters from both stances and kept a tight guard, even in the later stages of the fight. He also fought off a tight head-and-arm choke. While Della Maddalena did fade a bit in Round 3 -- he had never been to Round 3 prior to Tuesday -- he ultimately did enough to sweep the scorecards. After dropping his first two professional fights, Della Maddalena now takes a 10-fight winning streak into the UFC.
