Danny Roberts
Hot Chocolate
Drops controversial loss
March 16, 2019
Roberts lost to Claudio Silva via submission (arm-bar) at 3:37 of Round 3 at UFC Fight Night in London on Saturday.
Roberts had clear advantages on the feet throughout the fight, but Silva was able to lean on his wrestling and grappling each time Roberts hurt him. Roberts was able to work his way out of compromising positions on several occasions, but the grappling creativity of Silva was simply too much to overcome. Near the end of the third round, Silva had Roberts in an arm-bar that appeared dangerous, but Roberts lifted him up and slammed him several times on the head. Silva held on, and that's when the controversy started. The referee claimed to hear Roberts verbally tap, and while he did release some type of exclamation, it was difficult to determine whether or not it was a tap based on the replays. Roberts strongly denies any type of submission, of course. It's a tough break for "Hot Chocolate," who snapped a two-fight winning streak with the loss.

Headed to London
December 20, 2018
Roberts will take on Claudio Silva in a welterweight matchup at UFC London on March 16, Peter Carroll of MMAFighting.com reports.
Roberts has won back-to-back fights and sports a 5-2 record overall with the UFC. He'll hold a two-inch height and three-inch reach advantage over Silva, who thrives on the mat, averaging over three takedowns per 15 minutes of fight time. Fortunately for Roberts, he has been submitted just once in his 19-fight professional career, and that came all the way back in his 2015 promotional debut. Roberts will also have the UK crowd behind him as a native of Liverpool.
Has mettle tested in win over David Zawada
July 22, 2018
Roberts defeated David Zawada via split decision (27-30, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night 134 on Sunday in Hamburg, Germany.
The conventional wisdom coming into this fight was that Roberts would have a sizeable advantage on the feet but it was on the ground that the former boxer did his best work, staying a step ahead of the debutante in the majority of grappling exchanges. While it goes down as a win for Roberts, there may be cause for concern moving forward, as he seems to get matched in the striking department far too often for someone with his pedigree. Roberts improves to 16-3 as a result of the victory.
Will take on David Zawada at UFC Hamburg
July 20, 2018
Roberts will now take on David Zawada in a welterweight matchup at UFC Hamburg on Sunday.
Roberts had originally been scheduled to face Alan Jouban, but lost that opponent due to injury. In steps Zawada, who will be making his UFC debut on just a week's notice. Zawada likely got the call because he is from Germany and would not have to deal with last-minute visa issues, in addition to the fact that he's riding a five-fight winning streak in European-based promotions. As of Friday, Roberts has been seen as high as a (-400) betting favorite, which makes him the largest favorite on the card.
Needs opponent for UFC Hamburg
July 12, 2018
Roberts' opponent for UFC Hamburg, Alan Jouban, has dropped out of the fight due to injury, Ariel Helwani of ESPN reports.
Roberts was set to take on Jouban in what would have been just his sixth career UFC fight, but he is now opponent-less just 10 days before the event. There will likely now be a scramble to get Roberts an opponent before July 22, as the Englishman looks to improve his overall MMA record to 16-3.
Booked for UFC Hamburg
May 31, 2018
Roberts will fight Alan Jouban in a welterweight bout at UFC Hamburn on July 22.
Roberts is coming off his first knockout victory of his UFC career, as he took down Oliver Enkamp in the second round of their bout at UFC Fight Night in London back in March. This was an impressive bounce-back effort after Roberts was knocked out by Nordine Taleb just three months prior at UFC on FOX 26. The English fighter now boasts a 3-2 record in the UFC but an overall MMA record of 15-3 heading into July's contest.
