Totally dominates in UFC 311 win
LightweightUFC
January 18, 2025
Dawson defeated Carlos Diego Ferreira via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 311 on Saturday in Los Angeles.
ANALYSIS
Dawson and his team deserve credit for recognizing a hole in Ferreira's game and exploiting it. Grant fired off a whopping 11 takedown attempts, landing six of them. Those six tries turned into 10:50 worth of control time and resulted in a 195-84 edge in terms of total strikes landed. The damage from top position wasn't as lopsided as those numbers would lead you to believe, but Dawson remained active enough to ensure he'd win an easy decision. He's now 11-1-1 in the UFC, with the one setback being a fluke 33-second knockout defeat to Bobby Green back in October 2023.

Dawson will fight Carlos Diego Ferreira at UFC 311 on Jan. 18, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Since suffering his first UFC loss in October 2023, Dawson has bounced back with two consecutive wins over Joe Solecki and Rafa Garcia. Ferreira has also won his last two bouts, though he's only fought once in the past 17 months.
Dominates as hefty favorite
LightweightUFC
October 12, 2024
Dawson defeated Rafa Garcia via TKO (strikes) at 1:42 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
In a fight which lasted 6:42, Dawson was credited with 5:09 worth of control time. He landed 2-of-4 takedown attempts and closed with a 44-5 edge in terms of significant strikes landed. It was a dominating, suffocating performance from start to finish. Dawson would absolutely be getting title-implicating fights at 155 pounds had he not been knocked out by Bobby Green in 33 seconds almost exactly a year ago. As is, he's 10-1 (1NC) in a dozen fights with the company. He needs a step up in competition his next time out. He's earned it.
Books next fight for October

Dawson will match up against Rafa Garcia at a UFC event on Oct. 12, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
The American lightweight is coming off a dominating win over Joe Solecki via unanimous decision, and will look to start a new winning streak as his original streak was broken back in October from a knockout at the hands of Bobby Green. Dawson will take on Garcia, who hasn't fought since April of 2023.
Puts on suffocating performance
LightweightUFC
June 2, 2024
Dawson defeated Joe Solecki via unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27) at UFC 302 on Saturday in Newark.
ANALYSIS
When it was all said and done, Dawson blanketed and beat up Solecki for every bit of the 15-minute fight. Dawson has faced criticism since he arrived in the organization for being more of a control grappler than anything else, and while he was credited with 46 significant strikes, this seemed on paper like a matchup where he could finally showcase some striking. For all the nitpicking, Dawson only has one loss in his UFC career, but there was nothing in this victory that demonstrated any growth after he was knocked out by Bobby Green in October. "KGD" improves to 21-2-1 in professional MMA due to the victory.

Dawson is slated to take on Joe Solecki at UFC 302 on June 1, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport.nl reports.
ANALYSIS
Dawson is looking to bounce back from his first loss with the company, which saw his record fall to 8-1-1. The loss came to Bobby Green via ground and pound in Round 1. His opponent, Solecki, is 5-2 and also looking to bounce back from a loss.
