Hoping to bounce back at UFC 280
August 17, 2022
Porter will take on Hamdy Abdelwahab at UFC 280 on Oct. 22, Farah Hannoun of reports.
Porter was destroyed in his most recent fight against Jailton Almeida back in May. That came following after he was able to battle to three straight victories with the promotion. Abdelwahab recently just made his UFC debut and was able to score a split decision win.
No-shows loss in Vegas
May 21, 2022
Porter lost to Jailton Almeida via submission (Rear-Naked Choke) at 4:35 of Round 1 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Porter never had a chance. Entering as a +435 underdog, by far the largest on the entire card, Porter gave up a takedown to Almeida just seconds after the opening bell rang and was never able to work his way back to his feet. He absorbed plenty of ground-and-pound before eventually being choked out. To give you an idea how overwhelmed he was, Porter didn't attempt a single strike in the entire fight. Porter entered having won three fights in a row, but it was never going to last. The 37-year-old simply doesn't possess the conditioning or all-around arsenal to win at this level on a consistent basis moving forward.
Stepping in on May 21
April 20, 2022
Porter will take on Jailton Almeida at the UFC event May 21, Marcel Dorff of reports.
Porter will be stepping in for Maxim Grishin, who was forced to withdraw due to an undisclosed reason. Porter was last in the Octagon in February when he defeated Alan Baudot by unanimous decision.
Win streak hits three
February 19, 2022
Porter defeated Alan Baudot via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Porter's fights are rarely pretty, and this one was no exception. Known as a heavy-handed knockout artist who is always willing to eat a punch in order to land two of his own, Porter had to rely on his wrestling game in Round 3 in order to steal a tight decision. Recognizing Baudot's weakness in defending the takedown, Porter pushed forward about midway through the round and managed to get Baudot to the mat. It was a crucial development in the fight considering Porter was getting beaten up on the feet in the early stages of the frame. He landed some ground-and-pound and kept Baudot pinned for the remainder of the round, and that was enough to earn him the decision. The quality of competition Porter has faced has not been great, but he has still racked up three straight victories since suffering a first-round knockout defeat at the hands of Chris Daukaus in his UFC debut in August 2020.
Taking on Alan Baudot
January 24, 2022
Porter will take on Alan Baudot in Las Vegas on Feb. 19, Marcel Dorff of Eurosport Nederland reports.
Porter will be looking to stretch his winning streak to three. After dropping his UFC against Chris Daukas, he's gone on to secure unanimous decision wins over Josh Parisian and Chase Sherman. Baudot, on the other hand, has yet to earn a UFC victory, picking up one loss and one no contest in his two fights with the promotion.
