Game Preview

The semifinal between Bayern Munich and Lyon is the perfect example of a David vs. Goliath battle in modern soccer. Bayern destroyed both Chelsea and FC Barcelona in the knockout stages, and they've steamrolled past every opponent they've faced in the current UCL campaign, scoring 39 goals in total. Meanwhile, Lyon have been turning heads with their play and are coming off back-to-back upsets. The Ligue 1 side defeated Juventus in the round of 16, and pulled an even crazier win over Manchester City in the quarterfinals. Lightning doesn't strike three times in the same spot, however, so it's hard to imagine them pulling another upset. However, they've been playing so well of late that it would be disrespectful to count them out.

Olympique Lyon: Anthony Lopes; Jason Denayer, Marcelo, Fernando Marcal; Leo Dubois, Maxence Caqueret, Bruno Guimaraes, Houssem Aouar, Maxwel Cornet; Memphis Depay, Moussa Dembele

Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; Joshua Kimmich, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba, Alphonso Davies; Leon Goretzka, Thiago Alcantara; Ivan Perisic, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry; Robert Lewandowski

Top Picks From Each Team

Memphis Depay, Lyon: Maxwel Cornet and Moussa Dembele could be decent options given their strong performances against Manchester City, but Depay is Lyon's main attacking threat and the club's top scorer in the current Champions League

Top Picks From Each Team

Memphis Depay, Lyon: Maxwel Cornet and Moussa Dembele could be decent options given their strong performances against Manchester City, but Depay is Lyon's main attacking threat and the club's top scorer in the current Champions League campaign with six goals. If someone is going to break down Bayern's defense, it's likely to be the former Manchester United winger.

Robert Lewandowski, Bayern Munich: Lewandowski is the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League and, even though he "only" had one goal and one assist against FC Barcelona in the quarterfinals, he has scored in all but two matches in 2020 between the Bundesliga and the Champions League. He's a safe bet as any when talking about potential goalscorers, making him a great alternative for most lineups.
