Top 5 Transfers In and Out – Should You Follow the Crowd?
The Fantasy Premier League transfer market has been lively over the international break, with managers keen to act on early-season form and react to price movements. Some of the most popular moves make sense, while others appear more reactionary.
Popular names like Grealish, Semenyo and Isak are among the top transfers in, while Palmer, Cunha, Wood and Watkins headline the most-sold list.
In this article, I break down the top five FPL transfers in and out ahead of Gameweek 4 and give verdicts on whether you should follow the crowd or take a different approach.
In need of updates from Thursday's and Friday's press conferences? This article will be updated as news comes out.
Top Transfers In
Jack Grealish: FPL Trap in New Team?
Two consecutive hauls in a rejuvenated Everton attack have propelled Grealish into FPL relevance. His popularity is also influenced by his reputation from his days at Aston Villa to Manchester City.
However, the underlying data tells a different story: an expected goal involvement (xGi) of 1.6 compared to actual returns of four signals overperformance. With Liverpool to follow in Gameweek 5, he shouldn't be a priority buy.
Antoine Semenyo: Form Pick with Strong Underlying Numbers
Direct, pacey, and in great form, Semenyo is a genuine pick who looks dangerous every time he plays. With Brighton at home in GW4 and strong underlying metrics, he's a solid player to roster, particularly for those offloading Ismaila Sarr or Matheus Cunha.
Enzo Fernandez: Short-Term Penalty Taker or Long-Term Risk?
Fernandez has benefitted from Palmer's absence, temporarily assuming penalty duties at Chelsea. However, once Palmer returns, that advantage likely disappears. At a cheaper price point, Lucas Paqueta offers better value and reliability.
Alexander Isak: Premium Forward Worth the Wait?
Still finding his fitness, Isak only just made a substitute appearance for Sweden after waiting on the sideline for a move to Liverpool. Investing in him before his first start for Liverpool is risky at a premium price. It may be better to wait until his minutes are secure.
Joao Pedro: Emerging Forward Option After Delap Injury
With a strong start to the season and boosted minutes due to Liam Delap's injury, Pedro has become an attractive pick. He looks like a solid long-term forward option due to his versatility in the XI, able to play as the striker, on the wing or even in Palmer's usual role.
Top Transfers Out
Cole Palmer: Injured Star Worth Selling or Holding?
Injured in GW3 and with no clear update, Palmer is one of the most sold players. At his price, managers cannot afford prolonged absences. If he is a doubt or is ruled out in Gameweek 4, selling makes sense, but hold off until news is confirmed because he remains an excellent option if fit.
Matheus Cunha: Hamstring Injury Concerns
Substituted early against Burnley with a hamstring issue before the break, Cunha's availability is uncertain. With no concrete update, most managers are playing it safe by selling, which seems reasonable. The assumption is that he still has another couple weeks until a return at the end of September.
Chris Wood: Frustration or Fixture Opportunity?
Frustration after a blank has triggered mass sales, but upcoming fixtures against Burnley and Sunderland suggest holding could still pay off for Wood. Forest under Ange Postecoglou are set up to attack, and if Wood continues to start, that theoretically should lead to goals.
Ollie Watkins: Patience Required with Villa Striker?
Despite a slow start, Villa's fixtures are favourable, which is the main point in keeping him. His pedigree suggests patience is wise, so selling may be premature. Additions of Harvey Elliott and Jadon Sancho could also jumpstart Villa's attack.
William Saliba: Injury Update Makes Him an Easy Sell
Ruled out of France duty, early reports suggest Saliba will miss up to four weeks with a hamstring injury. If that's the case, it's an easy decision to sell the center-back.
Gameweek 4 is always a tricky point in the Fantasy Premier League season, with early bandwagons forming and managers reacting quickly to injuries and price changes. The key is to balance short-term gains with long-term value.
