2025 Fantasy Outlook
Wentz joined the Vikings in August to be the team's obvious No. 2 QB. The move gives the franchise a veteran backup with plenty of prior success and a mentor for 2024 first-rounder J.J. McCarthy, who hasn't yet played in his first NFL regular-season game. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Big volume in Week 4 loss
Wentz completed 30 of 46 passes for 350 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions in Sunday's 24-21 loss to the Steelers in Dublin. He added 12 rushing yards on two carries and also threw a two-point conversion to Jalen Nailor.
ANALYSIS
The Vikings lost right tackle Brian O'Neill to a knee injury and center Ryan Kelly to a concussion in the first half, and Wentz was under constant pressure as a result, getting sacked six times in total. Minnesota headed into the fourth quarter staring at a 21-6 deficit, but Wentz was able to lead a comeback that fell just short, hitting Zavier Scott for a 16-yard TD and Nailor for a two-yard score inside the final four minutes. On the other hand, the veteran QB almost threw a third INT in crunch time, only to have it overturned upon review. With J.J. McCarthy (ankle) not quite 100 percent yet, Wentz is expected to get another start in London for a Week 5 clash with the Browns, but he'll need to take better care of the ball to have a shot at retaining the job when the Vikings return from Europe.

Wentz signed a one-year contract in April to back up Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City. Last season, he was sitting on his couch when he got the call in November to back up Matthew Stafford in L.A. Wentz started Week 18, throwing two TD passes and running for another score. Now on his fifth team in five seasons, Wentz might benefit from the short passing game Mahomes ran last season. Wentz’s YPA hasn’t topped 7.0 since 2018 and in his last full season as a starter, 2021 with the Colts, his average target depth was a middling 7.6. But he threw 27 TD passes that season, showing he’s not completely washed. His rushing ability adds fantasy upside, which should make him a decent option in two-QB leagues should disaster strike in Kansas City.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could remain starter until bye
Wentz could be in line to start both of the Vikings' upcoming games in Europe, as they face the Steelers in Dublin in Week 4 before taking on the Browns in London in Week 5, Kevin Seifert of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Starting QB J.J. McCarthy is recovering from an ankle injury, but Minnesota doesn't want to rush him back into the lineup until he's fully recovered, and he's already been ruled out for the game against Pittsburgh. Wentz completed 70 percent of his passes in last week's win over the Bengals with two touchdowns, putting less pressure on McCarthy to get back into action. The Vikings get their bye in Week 6 after returning from the trip to Europe, which should give McCarthy more than enough time to recover.
