Fittingly, two teams that many feel are the most talented in the league tangle in this title game, with Chicago and Miam both putting together impressive regular seasons in which the two squads went a combined 11-5. Miami and Chicago were also Nos. 2 and 3 in points scored, and each is led by several former big NBA names.
The Triplets notably handed 305 a 50-41 loss in their one regular-season meeting back in Week 8 in Houston, a game in which Montrezl Harrell terrorized Miami to the tune of 28 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Nasir Core contributed 12 key points as well, and in the runaway playoff win over the Riot to get to Sunday's championship game, Chicago got a true teamwide effort that might be what's required to prevail against 305 again.
Amir Johnson actually stepped up to do a solid job defending Dwight Howard and showed he still could put points on the board, recording 13 points and seven rebounds. Additionally, Harrell and Chris Allen posted 11 points apiece, and Brandon Moss and Core supplied nine and six, respectively. Meanwhile that quartet also furnished a combined 24 rebounds and five blocks, corroborating the Triplets' ability to dominate on both sides of the ball.
That's going to be key against BIG3 scoring champion Michael Beasley and Fourth Man of the Year Lance Stephenson, who willed Miami to victory over the Power in last week's playoff clash with a combined 45 points, 23 rebounds, five assists and four steals. Beasley added five blocks in a rare display of defensive dominance, but beyond the dynamic duo, 305 didn't get much else. That was often the story across the 305's eight regular-season games as well, including the loss to the Triplets for the most part.
The Triplets have proven to be a deeper team on a more consistent basis overall this season, and with Harrell the emotional leader in addition to the team's best on-court presence Chicago has a never-say-die attitude. Naturally, Beasley and Stephenson are highly driven as well, and Sean Williams is quite the defensive stalwart that can serve as a burr in the saddle of the opposition.
Consequently, I envision a very close game where the multiple offensive playmakers make an impact. Therefore, the Over is my top play here, but the Triplets moneyline is also in play as a secondary bet.
