DraftKings MLB: Wednesday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Chris Archer, TB at BOS ($8,500): We should be looking to take advantage of prices like this while we can get them, as Archer's absurd 42 percent HR/FB rate has contributed to an ERA approaching 6.00 over his first three starts. Walks have been an issue for Archer in the early going, but he hasn't lost his stuff, striking out 23 batters in 15.1 innings. Advanced metrics expect a major correction for Archer going forward, as his xFIP currently stands at 2.88.

Ross Stripling, LAD at ATL ($6,400): Stripling has performed well in his first two starts at the big-league level, and he may be heading into his most favorable matchup yet, as the Braves are once again a bottom-10 team against right-handers to open the season. Ben May could allow Stripling to return maximum value, as he saw the fifth-most strikeouts and the fewest runs per game among umpires who called at least 20 games in 2015.

CATCHER

Brian McCann, NYY vs. OAK (3,800): McCann is off to a solid start to begin the season, and he could benefit greatly from facing an extreme ground-ball pitcher like Kendall Graveman, as he notched the fourth-highest fly ball rate in the league in 2015.

FIRST BASE

Chris Carter, MIL vs. MIN ($3,600): Opposing starter Tommy Milone won't continue to give up home runs at a 3.3/9 clip, but he has historically had trouble keeping right-handed hitters in the ballpark. Carter possesses tremendous power against righties and lefties, and he should be able to make some contact, as Milone held just a 15 percent strikeout rate against righties last season.

SECOND BASE

Rougned Odor, TEX vs. HOU ($4,000):Doug Fister has been absolutely pummeled by left-handed hitters to begin the 2016 season after notching an xFIP over 5.00 against them last year. Odor has maintained his power stroke against his opposite hand despite some early struggles, and he had an ISO over .200 against righties in 2015.

THIRD BASE

David Wright, NYM at PHI ($4,100): For the past two full seasons, Jeremy Hellickson has allowed a significantly higher rate of homers to righties, and the trend has continued in 2016, surrendering his only two home runs to right-handed hitters. Wright's effectiveness against same-handed hurlers has dipped over the course of some injury-plagued seasons, but he is off to a good start this year, recording a .376 wOBA in 34 at-bats.

SHORTSTOP

Corey Seager LAD at ATL ($4,000): Seager is off to a bit of a slow start this season, but it may be wise to grab all the lefties you can find against Julio Teheran, who has allowed three home runs and walked six of the 33 left-handed batters he has faced this year.

OUTFIELD

Oswaldo Arcia, MIN at MIL ($3,400): Arcia has hit just one home run this season, but he has shown prodigious power against right-handed pitchers in his brief major league career. Jimmy Nelson allowed a .495 slugging percentage against left-handed batters last season, while his walk rate jumped from 7.7 to 10.0 percent.

Ryan Braun, MIL vs. MIN ($4,600): Braun was limited by a back issue last season, but he appears to be in the swing of things in 2016, as he has homered three times in 13 games. Braun has always been a thorn in the side of lefties, and he could continue his power display in the friendly confines of Miller Park.

Yoenis Cespedes, NYM at PHI ($4,500): Cespedes has had something of a reverse split for most of his career, but it was never more drastic than in 2015, when he slugged .571 against righties while notching a .261 ISO. This seems like a perfect fit to exploit the deficiencies of Hellickson discussed above.

Other Options: Matt Kemp SD vs. PIT ($4,600) Andrew McCutchen PIT at SD ($4,700) George Springer, HOU at TEX ($4,200)
