Jose Garcia
22-Year-Old ShortstopSS
2020 Fantasy Outlook
Signed for $5 million out of Cuba in 2017, Garcia underwhelmed in his first season in the Reds organization but got his career on track in 2019. He was 31% better than the average Florida State League hitter by wRC+, registering a .358 wOBA in 452 plate appearances with 15 stolen bases in 17 attempts. He was 21 years old last season, and his performance at the next rung of the minor-league ladder -- at a more age-appropriate level -- will provide a better gauge of where Garcia stands in his development. There is not a lot of power here and his patience is lacking (5.5 BB% last season), but his bat-to-ball skills and speed make Garcia a player to keep an eye on. The Reds will need to add Garcia to the 40-man roster next winter for Rule 5 protection, and they may have a vacancy at shortstop in 2021. Read Past Outlooks

Stat Review
How does Jose Garcia compare to other hitters?
This section compares his stats with all batting seasons from the previous three seasons (minimum 400 plate appearances)*. The bar represents the player's percentile rank. For example, if the bar is halfway across, then the player falls into the 50th percentile for that stat and it would be considered average.

* Exit Velocity and Barrels/PA % are benchmarked against 2019 data (min 400 PA) and Hard Hit Rate is benchmarked against last season's data (min 400 PA). See here for more exit velocity/barrels stats plus an explanation of current limitations with that data set.
