Sullivan will hit the bench for a second straight game, as he's faded back to the second spot on the Rockies' catching depth chart with All-Star Hunter Goodman returning from the injured list Tuesday. While Goodman was out of the lineup for a stretch of 10 consecutive games from Aug. 14 through Monday, Sullivan made eight starts and went 5-for-29 (.172 average) with one home run, five RBI and four runs.

Sullivan showed some surprising power in Triple-A last season, belting 17 home runs over 450 plate appearances (his previous high mark was 13 long balls in 501 PAs in Single-A in 2016). He also got a couple short stints with the Padres but didn't produce much, going 3-for-16 with a homer across seven contests. Sullivan will be 31 years old at the start of the 2025 campaign and has just 40 big-league games under his belt, so there's not much of a fantasy angle here. The departure of Kyle Higashioka boosts Sullivan's chance of claiming San Diego's No. 2 backstop role, but the team signed veteran Martin Maldonado to a minor-league deal in mid-January, and the Padres may value his experience and clubhouse leadership over any offensive advantage Sullivan might offer.
