Rest-of-Season Projections
2023 Fantasy Outlook
After crushing Triple-A for two seasons, Hummel got his first chance in the majors in his age-27 season. His excellent plate discipline along with the chance to gain catcher eligibility made him an early-season free agent and waiver target. As is often the case when a hitter advanced for the minor league level excels, Hummer was unable to translate his success on the farm to the majors. A 32% strikeout rate in concert with weak contact yielded a .581 OPS. The Mariners acquired Hummel from Arizona in the offseason, so they must feel he can capture some of his minor league prowess. He walked at an 11.4% clip and swiped four bags in five tries. Plus, Hummel caught 18 games, so picking up a reserve who can catch helps in-game managing, not to mention he may have or gain catcher eligibility in some fantasy leagues. There is enough to track Hummel, but not sufficient reason to offer him a seat at the fantasy table. Read Past Outlooks

Optioned to Triple-A
Seattle optioned Hummel to Triple-A Tacoma on Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
ANALYSIS
Hummel was sent down to Triple-A after going just 2-for-23 (.087) over his 23 at-bats with the Mariners. He'll head down to the Rainiers and likely get regular playing time while Sam Haggerty was activated from the 7-day concussion injured list in a corresponding move.
