DraftKings MLB: Sunday Picks

This article is part of our DraftKings MLB series.

PITCHER

Carlos Martinez, STL at PIT ($10,800): The Pirates struggle against the fastball, as evidenced by their bottom-10 RAA against the pitch. Meanwhile, Martinez has logged a 7.1 RAA with his heater over 116.1 innings (18 starts). The 25-year-old should be able to use his ground-ball tendencies to full advantage given Pittsburgh has hit the ball on the ground at a 46.5 percent rate.

Anibal Sanchez, DET vs. TOR ($6,700): Sanchez has thrown the ball well of late, notching a 3.47 ERA over his last 23.1 innings (four starts). The driving force behind his improved results appears to be the changeup, which now stands at 3.3 RAA. The Blue Jays hold a minus-10.1 RAA against the offering, while also registering a bottom-10 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez, NYY at BOS ($4,600): Opposing starter Rick Porcello has held something of a reverse split in 2017, allowing a .516 slugging percentage to righties. The same holds true for Sanchez, who enters the contest having registered a .229 ISO and a .380 wOBA against same-handed pitchers.

FIRST BASE

Hanley Ramirez, BOS vs. NYY ($4,400): Saturday's 16-inning marathon may have given us a break from a DFS perspective, as it allows us to stack against CC Sabathia, a pitcher who hasn't taken the mound since giving up four runs in just 2.2 innings on July 4. Ramirez has crushed the ball against lefties this season, tallying a .298 ISO and a 46.0 percent hard contact rate over 47 at-bats.

SECOND BASE

Chris Taylor, LAD at MIA ($4,000):Chris O'Grady put up decent results at Triple-A New Orleans this season, but he was tagged for three runs in just 5.1 innings in his lone start for the big club. Meanwhile, Taylor has been all over the basepaths against left-handed pitchers, notching a wOBA of .427 in 63 at-bats.

THIRD BASE

Marwin Gonzalez, HOU vs. MIN ($4,400): Gonzalez has registered an impressive 20.0 RAA against the fastball, while opposing starter Kyle Gibson's heater clocks in at minus-13.3 RAA. The advantages don't stop there for Gonzalez, as he will take a .625 slugging percentage against righties into the contest.

SHORTSTOP

Wilmer Difo, WAS at CIN ($3,700): Difo has been on fire since moving into a more consistent role due to the absence of Trea Turner, posting a .449 wOBA and stealing one base in eight games this month. Homer Bailey has struggled more with right-handers this season, but he has registered a 14.0 percent walk rate against opposite-handed hitters.

OUTFIELD

Ian Happ, CHC at BAL ($4,600):Ubaldo Jimenez's standout effort against the Blue Jays late last month seems to have been nothing more than a blip on the radar, as the nine runs he has allowed over his last two starts has brought his ERA to 6.67. Happ has logged a .301 ISO and 35.0 percent hard contact rate against right-handed pitching this year.

Scott Schebler, CIN vs. WAS ($3,700): Schebler remains an underpriced asset, having hit 22 home runs and posting a .266 ISO over 304 at-bats. Tanner Roark had his final start before the All-Star break skipped due to a postponed game, meaning he has not taken the mound in more than a week. Knocking off the rust may not be easy for the 30-year-old, who has allowed a .515 slugging percentage against lefties over 46.2 innings this season.

Nelson Cruz, SEA at CWS ($4,800): Cruz has shown more power against righties this year, but he has hardly been a slouch against his opposite hand, tallying a .389 wOBA in 67 at-bats. Meanwhile, opposing starter Derek Holland has allowed a .548 slugging percentage and 41.0 percent hard contact rate against righty hitters.
