Who Have Been the NBA's Walking Wounded This Year?

While we're still at the beginning of the NBA's marathon of a regular season, it's already clear which franchises have been hampered by the injury bug most, with both of last year's conference champions (the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder) scoring the most points across our metrics, with 62 and 60 points, respectively.

In Indiana's case, the last few days have seen six players suffer day-to-day injuries, including guards Andrew Nembhard (shoulder), Bennedict Mathurin (foot) and Johnny Furphy (foot), while forward Obi Toppin suffered a right hamstring injury against Minnesota on Sunday.

Three previous injuries, including Tyrese Haliburton's disastrous NBA Finals Achilles tendon tear and long-term injuries to guards T.J. McConnell (hamstring) and Kam Jones (back) help explain why the Pacers are looking up at an 0-3 start, while OKC has used the team's depth to win four straight out of the gate, despite having six players suffer injuries this year already.

Among the players that are on the shelf for the defending champs from the Sooner State are guards Jalen Williams (wrist), Isaiah Joe (knee), Alex Caruso (concussion) and Kenrich Williams (knee), while center Thomas Sorber suffered a torn ACL during the offseason, sidelining him indefinitely.

Who Else Has Been Impacted?

The other teams that have been hit hard by injuries out of the gate are the Los Angeles Lakers, who have a league-high seven players on the team's injury report, netting them 56 points by our scoring system, while the Memphis Grizzlies (50 points/five injured players), Portland Trail Blazers (41 points/four injured players) and Miami Heat (34 points/five injured players) are next in line across the 30-team league.

The franchises that round out our inaugural injury rankings are the Charlotte Hornets, who have 33 points and four injured players to date, while the Philadelphia 76ers (31 points/five injured players), Los Angeles Clippers (30 points/three injured players), San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks (29 points each) round out the list as the NBA regular season kicks into high gear in the weeks ahead.

For now, the Thunder's cavalcade of injuries has done little to staunch the team's chances of repeating, with oddsmakers from FanDuel Sportsbook giving OKC the best 2026 NBA championship betting odds, at +200, well ahead of the Cleveland Cavaliers (+650), Denver Nuggets (+700), New York Knicks (+1200) and Golden State Warriors (+1700).
