Yahoo DFS Basketball: Monday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Monday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Stacking is a beautiful strategy and Monday offers plenty of opportunities to find the perfect high-scoring game, 10 to be exact. One game sticks out above all the others and it's being played in Oklahoma City as the Thunder welcome the Kings to town. Sacramento's offense is the fastest-paced unit in the NBA and OKC is right behind Golden State in offensive efficiency rating at 109.5. Kevin Durant is on fire, so rolling with him, Serge Ibaka ($29) and the often used Enes Kanter ($16) will only cost you $98 and leave you with an average of $20 to fill the rest of your roster, which is reasonable.

GUARD

Klay Thompson, GSW vs. CHA ($34) - Steph Curry's return to the Warriors' lineup was short lived, as the reigning MVP was forced to exit Saturday's game. What this means is that Thompson will remain firmly supplanted as Golden State's go-to option on offense. Over the past three games, elite shooters have had their way with the Hornets, just ask Kevin Durant, DeMar DeRozan and J.J. Redick. Thompson enters Monday as the fourth-highest priced shooting guard and is $22 less than James Harden, who faces a much tougher task against the Jazz.

Rodney Hood, UTA vs. HOU ($18) -
Speaking of the Jazz, injuries have forced multiple players to step up, particularly Hood, who is coming off a career-high 32 points in Saturday's win against the Grizzlies. Hood also just had a baby, so he's either going to be riding that high or just lacking sleep. Even if Hood is a bit dreary, the Rockets should have no problem waking him up, considering they forgot how to play defense again. Houston has allowed at least 110 points in each of four consecutivce losses. If you're looking for more salary cap relief, Trey Burke ($14) is also a decent play having posted 30-plus fantasy points in two of his last three games.

Guard to Avoid:

Reggie Jackson, DET vs. ORL ($38) - The last time Jackson went for more than 20 points was Dec. 18 against the Bulls in that 4OT thriller -- it took him 50 minutes to get to 31 points. He was still posting decent fantasy-point totals, but only scored 12 in Saturday's loss and stayed in the game despite rolling his ankle, so there's a chance Jackson won't go Monday. If he does play, fade him for somebody like Kemba Walker ($37), who is 2.5 fantasy points away from putting up 40 or more in his past five contests.

FORWARD

Draymond Green, GSW vs. CHA ($48) - If you're into stacking, rolling with the high-priced pair of Thompson and Green isn't a bad option Monday. They combined for 122.8 points in Saturday's win as Green recorded his second consecutive triple-double. The Hornets have struggled on defense lately and the Warriors haven't really missed a beat -- at least not on the offensive end -- without Curry (they stilled scored 91 points in that blowout loss to Dallas). Cash games are the way to go if you're stacking some Warriors, though, considering their ownership percentages will be relatively high.

Jae Crowder, BOS at BKN ($26) -
Crowder has pretty much been the standard of consistency the last two weeks or so at the small forward slot in Yahoo DFS. He's posted 30 or more fantasy points in six of his last seven games and filled up the stat sheet nicely in Saturday's loss to the Nets, so Crowder should have no trouble duplicating and most likely improving on that performance. If you're looking for more safe points, Crowder provides a lot of value not only in cash games but in tournaments, as well.

Forward to Avoid:

Chris Bosh, MIA vs. IND ($40) - Paying this much at power forward is usually a good idea, but not if Bosh is the player you're investing in Monday. The Pacers have held three opponents to less than 90 points in their last five games and the Heat rank in the bottom five in the league in points per game. Bosh has failed to record a double-double in consecutive games, which hurt his ability to score more points than his salary. That usually translate to negative value, something that isn't very good when playing DFS. Heat-Pacers also has an extremely low over/under (194), so it may be best to just avoid this game altogether.

CENTER

Brook Lopez, BKN vs. BOS ($31) - Easy points is the theme of this article, so we might as well stick to the script at center, where Lopez comes in as the hottest at the position. He's posted 40 or more fantasy points in five of his last seven games and has a double-double in six of seven. There's a chance Lopez's ownership percentage dips a bit considering how many games are on tap Monday and the fact that the Celtics' defense provides a tough task, but matchups haven't really matter for Lopez lately.

Center to Avoid:

Nikola Vucevic, ORL at DET ($38) - It's always concerning when your highly priced 7-footer is benched after just 13 minutes in a blowout loss, even if it was to the first-place Cavaliers. Vucevic has gone four straight games without a double-double and while he's bound to have more than 8.1 fantasy points, it's way too risky to invest this much salary in a player who doesn't have the coach's trust at the moment. Greg Monroe ($30) and Dwight Howard ($29) are a couple of cheap, contrarian plays if you want to mix things up.
