Yahoo DFS Basketball: Saturday Picks

Yahoo DFS Basketball: Saturday Picks

This article is part of our Yahoo DFS Basketball series.

Saturday's 11-game slate may not include big names like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry, but there are plenty of elite options available, which puts extra importance on finding the right value plays to pair with them.

GUARDS

Eric Bledsoe, PHO vs. BKN ($33): Bledsoe has been putting his all-around skills to excellent use lately, averaging 26.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists per game while topping 40.0 fantasy points in each of his last two appearances. The athletic point guard should have no problem staying hot against a Nets team that isn't good enough to contain him but has been competitive enough to ensure opposing starters are still on the floor down the stretch. He'll rank among the league's top point guards despite being priced below the top-tier options.

Marcus Smart, BOS at IND ($15): Smart makes for a smart choice given his recent play and dream matchup. He's coming off a 40.2-fantasy-point performance and now gets to face a Pacers team that has allowed a league-worst 113.3 points per game. This is a no-brainer at $15 given that he has scored at least 19.0 fantasy points in every game and has a sky-high ceiling for this price range.

Guard to Avoid

Derrick Rose, NYK at TOR ($25): Rose has declined in three consecutive games, scoring 22.1 or fewer fantasy points in each of his last two. Toronto's sixth-ranked defense allows just 98.3 points per game, which will make it hard for Rose to pile up the points and assists he relies on to accrue value. The Knicks point guard makes for a poor play for the same reasons Smart is a good one, as he he has been trending down and has a tough matchup.

FORWARDS

Paul Millsap, ATL vs. PHI ($39): The last time Millsap faced a team that's allowing over 105.0 points per game, he dropped 50.2 fantasy points on the Rockets. Now he gets to go against a 76ers team that has allowed a whopping 107.4 points per game. While limited playing time capped his production the last time he faced this foe, don't expect Millsap to underperform against Philadelphia twice in a row.

Otto Porter, WAS at CHI ($20): Porter has been fantastic in his past four games, averaging 41.8 fantasy points per contest. The Wizards have asked him to play heavy minutes all season, and the 2013 third overall pick has blossomed with the increased responsibility of playing 35 minutes per game. He won't be priced this low for long given his combination of role and productivity, so take advantage of getting him for $20 while you can.

Forward to Avoid

Tobias Harris, DET at DEN ($29): Harris has been slumping of late, having scored 20.1 or fewer fantasy points in four straight games. The excellent matchup with a defensively deficient Denver team looks tempting, but he offers worse bang for the buck than any of his fellow Pistons. With his playing time also shrinking by a few minutes per game recently due to these struggles, it's going to be hard to trust Harris until his level starts trending back up.

CENTERS

Marc Gasol, MEM at MIL ($29): Gasol is off to a hot start, averaging 34.5 fantasy points per game while never scoring fewer than 28.1 in any of his first seven appearances, and his high floor makes him an appealing play once again. Most of the alternatives in this price range have struggled to consistently live up to their valuations, making Gasol the clear choice among moderately-priced centers.

Timofey Mozgov, LAL at NOP ($10): Mozgov was finally back up to his regular playing time Thursday in Sacramento, as he got 33 minutes in that win. The increase in role comes just in time to face a New Orleans team that's allowing a league-high 49.0 rebounds per game to go with an ugly 107.7 points. This is the perfect time to utilize the Russian big man, with a vulnerable opponent on tap and his price still depressed from a recent eye injury.

Center to Avoid

Karl-Anthony Towns, MIN at LAC ($44): Towns will have a hard time living up to his price as the night's most expensive center against the league's No. 1 defense. The Clippers have allowed a mere 88.3 points per game, and their frontcourt combo of Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan will make it hard to grab rebounds on either end. Towns has scored under 42.0 fantasy points in six of seven games, and he's unlikely to buck that trend by outplaying his price for just the second time.
