College Football DFS: Week 6 Evening Slate

Saturday's night slate is consistent for both major DFS sites, but FanDuel has two outlier games that we'll also touch on in the article.  Let's get right to it!

SLATE OVERVIEW

East Carolina @ South Florida  (-4.5)  O/U: 56.5

The Clemson-Miami game clocks in with the second-highest point total on the slate, and is arguably the most exciting game as well. The Tiger offense lasted three-and-a-half quarters before giving way to scrubs in a game against Virginia (a game the Wahoos covered at +28). This will probably be a four-quarter affair for Dabo and company, and aside from a clash against the Irish later this fall, it's a week where you can count on a full game's worth from their starters. This game will be very chalky, so we'll do our best to limit our mentions to give our recommendations a bit of a contrarian perspective. 

The oddsmakers still aren't sold on the Air Raid and they gave them no love against Kentucky, but the O/U is attractive. The narrow spread makes this a worthwhile target. I think it has a bigger upset potential than the other contests available. The outlier games for FanDuel have favorable point spreads, but the O/U totals are pretty terrible. We'll provide a short paragraph for those games, however.

QUARTERBACK

Trevor Lawrence, Clemson (DK $8,800, FD $10,00) vs. Miami

While Lawrence tops the slate on DraftKings, he comes in as the second-highest target on FanDuel, so you could, in a sense, consider him a bargain there. While Clemson's rotation is hemlock for a Heisman contender, the presumptive No. 1 overall pick will play a full game in this one. Whether it's through the air or on the ground, this guy has all the tools, and at least for this week, he's worth the hype in DFS play.

K.J. Costello, Mississippi State (DK $8,600, FD $9,300) @ Kentucky

Costello came back to earth after shattering SEC records in his first game, but a bounce-back should be in the making for Costello. The Wildcats have shown no challenge to opposing pass offenses in their first two games, and their secondary will have a hard time containing him Saturday night. Costello can be a bit reckless with the ball, but he's not afraid to air it out.  He's a decent contrarian way to go if you're spending up.

Terry Wilson, Kentucky (DK $7,200, FD $8,800 vs. Mississippi Statte

Wilson is a great S-Flex candidate, and his dual-threat capability will come in handy in what should be a competitive contest. Wilson's arm is a threat, but opposing defenses can be burned when he slips out of the pocket. He's logged 171 rushing yard and three touchdowns in only two games, and it's the only stat you need if you want to showcase his flexibility.

RUNNING BACK

Travis Etienne, Clemson (DK $8,000, FD $10,000) vs. Miami

Based on what's available, you don't want to get cute on running back this week. Go with the production and take your chances elsewhere.  At their core, Clemson is and always will-be a run-based offense despite Lawrence's incredible arm. You're going to want to own the Tigers somewhere, and overall, Etienne is probably the most dependable option over Lawrence. Even though Clemson is touted as Wide Receiver U, Etienne is the heartbeat of this offense. He should excel against a Miami defense that allows an average of 146 yards on the ground.

Najee Harris, Alabama (DK $7,800, FD $10,400) @ Mississippi

It'll cost you to stack Etienne and Harris, but it's probably the most productive way to go.  The Bulldogs allow over 300 yards per game to opposing running backs, and aside from Brian Robinson Jr. (DK $3,900, FD $5,600), Harris is the only runner to see time in the backfield. This could be a signature game for Robinson if the blowout happens as expected, but Harris will be on the field enough to be effective. After allowing  43 points to opposing offenses in the first two games, Alabama will want to run up the score to put the SEC on notice.

WIDE RECEIVER

Osirus Mitchell, Mississippi State (DK $6,600, FD $8,700) @ Kentucky

We'll have to make some sacrifices at wideout this week, and Mitchell will probably be as high as you should go. We can get more value from Costello's primary target than the more expensive Alabama targets due to the blowout potential in that game. If you factor in the likely bump Costellowill receive in this close game, we should see around sic to eight catches and over 100 yards receiving from Mitchell tonight.

Frank Ladson, Clemson (DK $4,900, FD $7,900) vs. Miami

I'm compelled to reiterate my Clemson bias if my bio doesn't make that evident already, but the abundance of options for the Tigers is based entirely on objectivity. In all honesty, Clemson is rarely the best way to go with their flimsy schedule, but the Miami and Note Dame contests (and possibly UNC) are where you can let their offense loose. Even though Lawrence looks to Amari Rodgers first, Ladson has picked up where Justyn Ross (spine) left off as the big-play flanker. His 6-3, 205 frame fits precisely the kind of target one has come to expect from the Tigers' WR corps, making him an obvious target for their star quarterback.

Kevin Austin, Notre Dame (DK $3,000, FD $5,500) vs. Notre Dame

Before Chase Claypool left the program, I remember a quote from saying that Austin was one of the best athletes he'd ever played with. That's a huge compliment coming from the current Pittsburgh Steeler, and it's apparent the Brian Kelly feels the same way.  He'll finally take the field after being sidelined with a foot injury in August, and although this is a colossal punt play and an absolute risk, I'm willing to take a chance on a low snap count to get my elites into the lineup. I think there is also merit to take a look at Ben Skowronek (DK, $4,000, FD $7,200), who's debut with the Irish was cut short with a leg injury against Duke.  The transfer from Northwestern had an excellent tenure with the Wildcats, and for $500 more, he can also give you some unexpected value in the bargain bin.

FANDUEL GAMES

Austin Aune ($9,200) has taken up the full-time QB duties for North Texas, and I think he should end up as the most consistent signal-callee out of this two-game grouping. I also see an argument for Marshall's Grant Wells ($8,900) as a QB target. Both of these players are strictly S-FLEX considerations.

You should fade all running back options in these games except for DeAndre Torrey ($7,700). He's a great mid-range option who is trending up in the Mean Green's offensive scheme.

There are several suitable targets at wide receiver, however.  North Texas wideout Jaelon Darden ($9,300) is the headliner, but there's also excellent value beneath him, with Mitchell Tinsley ($7,000) from Western Kentucky and North Texas sophomore Deonte Simpson ($7,300) as my two favorites.
