2025 Fantasy Outlook
Few running backs in NFL history come close to the raw athletic ability of Guerendo, who at 6 feet, 220 pounds has blazing speed (4.33 40) and elite explosiveness (41.5-inch vertical, 129-inch broad jump). It's such a shame, then, that Guerendo may be one of the most fragile RB prospects in recent memory. He had horrendous injury luck for all but one of the past six years, at one point in college suffering hamstring tears two years in a row before suffering a Lisfranc injury the third year. In his 2024 rookie year, Guerendo missed time at various points with hamstring, groin and foot injuries, and in the season finale against Arizona he suffered an MCL sprain and ankle sprain in the same leg. As if to make all of this more tormenting, Guerendo has real skill in addition to his ridiculous athleticism – he runs with power and is likely an above-average receiver – but it just isn't clear he can ever stay healthy to realize his upside. For now, Guerendo will remain a boom-or-bust backup to Christian McCaffrey, after the 49ers traded Jordan Mason to Minnesota in the offseason. Read Past Outlooks

Out for a few weeks
San Francisco coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that Guerendo (shoulder) is expected to miss a couple weeks, Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo made an early exit from Saturday's practice and apparently won't be back for a while. It sounds like he has a chance to be ready for Week 1, but a preseason appearance probably isn't in the cards. Guerendo's absence could give rookie Jordan James more opportunities to mix in with the first-team offense, especially on days when Christian McCaffrey is rested.

A 4.33 40-yard time and a strong overall performance at the Combine launched Guerendo up draft boards, and the 49ers traded up in the fourth round to make sure they got the 221-pound speedster. Kyle Shanahan's offense is arguably the best in the league for a running back, especially one with game-breaking speed, though Guerendo figures to begin his career behind three-down workhorse Christian McCaffrey and the brittle Elijah Mitchell. Guerendo was never a lead back during his time at Wisconsin and Louisville, but he averaged 6.1 yards on 132 carries for the Cardinals last season and now becomes one of the fastest running backs in the NFL.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Set to be Niners' RB2
Guerendo is slated to serve as the 49ers' backup running back behind Christian McCaffrey for the 2025 season after Jordan Mason was traded to the Vikings on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Guerendo saw some meaningful work during his rookie campaign in 2024, including Week 14 against the Bears, when he rushed for 78 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries when both Mason and McCaffrey were out due to injury. Guerendo suffered MCL and ankle sprains in Week 18, but he's expected to be fully healthy for the 2025 season. With Mason now in Minnesota, Guerendo would stand to see a heavy workload if McCaffrey were to miss time.
