Will Grier
25-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
Carolina Panthers
2020 Fantasy Outlook
Drafted in the third round last year, Grier was deemed as a potential insurance policy should then-starter Cam Newton endure more injury struggles. When Newton went down after two games, however, the Panthers started Kyle Allen in 13 of their last 14 outings, with Grier only getting the call Week 16 due to an Allen injury. Overall, Grier completed under 55 percent of his passes and threw no touchdowns versus four interceptions as a rookie. This season, the Panthers no longer roster Newton or Allen, but Teddy Bridgewater and PJ Walker were acquired to replace them. With Bridgewater tabbed as the starter, Grier is now slated to compete with Walker for second-string duties under new coach Matt Rhule, whose experience coaching Walker in college gives Grier an additional hurdle to clear ahead of his second season. No game time in second season
QBCarolina Panthers
January 11, 2021
Grier did not play a snap during the 2020 season, as P.J. Walker was preferred to him when the Panthers were without starting quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.
ANALYSIS
Grier, a third-round pick in 2019, made two appearances as a rookie, and even though he and Walker alternated being active over the course of this season, Walker ultimately got the call to play when Bridgewater was out. Looking ahead to the 2021 campaign, despite Grier remaining under contract, it appears unlikely his situation will improve as long as he remains in Carolina, as both Bridgewater and Walker also are due to return, and the team could always sign or draft another signal-caller during the offseason.

2019 Fantasy Outlook
Grier was drafted in the third round this year to back up Cam Newton in Carolina. Opportunities will be scarce, unless Newton is injured, but Grier is a work in progress anyway. Although his arm strength is merely average, Grier is an accurate passer (67.0 completion rate last year). He is described by scouts as having a gunslinger mentality even if he doesn't have a gunslinger's arm, which is probably why he gets reckless at times - 20 interceptions in two seasons at West Virginia. Still, he threw for 7,354 years and 71 touchdowns the last two years for the Mountaineers, showing plenty of upside. Carolina's receiving corps is rather pedestrian, though second-year WR D.J. Moore has big-play potential. If nothing else, Grier can always dump it off to Christian McCaffrey and Greg Olsen.
