2025 Fantasy Outlook
Mariota signed a one-year contract with Washington for a second straight offseason, electing to stick around as Jayden Daniels' backup after thriving in the two games Daniels left early last season. Mariota threw two touchdown passes in both of those games, leading the Commanders to victory and cementing himself as one of the league's better backup QBs. He might even have fantasy value in single-QB fantasy leagues if Daniels were to miss time, as Mariota still offers some running ability at age 31. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Tosses two TDs in Week 4 loss
Mariota completed 16 of 27 passes for 156 yards and two touchdowns with one interception in Sunday's 34-27 loss to the Falcons. He added 20 rushing yards on two carries. He also threw a two-point conversion to Zach Ertz.
ANALYSIS
Making his second straight start in place of Jayden Daniels (knee), Mariota and the Commanders' offense started slowly but eventually caught fire, only for the team's defense to be unable to come up with a stop when it needed one. Mariota tossed a five-yard TD to Luke McCaffrey late in the second quarter and a 24-yard score to Deebo Samuel in the fourth, while also leading three drives that ended in field goals in the second half. Daniels appears to be on track to return in Week 5, but if Mariota needs to take the reins again, he'll get a tough road matchup against the Chargers.

After signing a one-year deal with Washington in March, Mariota will back up No. 2 overall pick Jayden Daniels. In Mariota's last two years as a Week 1 starter -- 2019 in Tennessee and 2022 in Atlanta -- he lost the job before the season was out. Last season was spent backing up Jalen Hurts in Philadelphia. Mariota is a capable game manager, but he takes a lot of sacks and struggles with downfield accuracy, and he's often been plagued by injuries during his 10-year career. He's still mobile, though, so perhaps his rushing ability will lead to fantasy value if he ends up filling in for Daniels at some point.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Officially set for another start
Mariota is set to draw a second consecutive start Sunday against the Falcons after Jayden Daniels was ruled out Friday due to his knee injury, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Mariota acquitted himself well in his third opportunity for extended action under center in Washington since the start of last season, amassing 247 total yards and a passing and rushing touchdown apiece in a comfortable Week 3 victory over the Raiders. He'll now get a second consecutive matchup against a former team when the Commanders face off with the Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and he'll be facing a secondary that will once again be missing top cornerback A.J. Terrell due to a hamstring injury.
