2025 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson is coming off his most productive campaign since 2021, as he amassed 497 scrimmage yards over 17 regular-season games with a career-high four touchdowns, including three through the air. The Bills backfield remains crowded headed into 2025, with James Cook leading the way and second-year back Ray Davis showing out as a rookie when he got opportunities, but Johnson appears set in a change-of-pace role. The 27-year-old has quietly put together 5.0 yards per carry on 101 totes over the last three seasons. Read Past Outlooks
RANKS
Accounts for 16 yards in Week 6
Johnson carried once for five yards and added an 11-yard reception on two targets in Monday's 24-14 loss to the Falcons.
ANALYSIS
For the fourth straight game, Johnson outpaced Ray Davis in playing time, with the latter running back being limited to just two snaps while the former logged 24, his most since Week 1. Starter James Cook still led the backfield with 30 snaps on the night, though he was limited to just one carry in the fourth quarter while the Bills largely abandoned the run and leaned more heavily on Johnson in passing situations. The Bills seemingly view Johnson mainly as a passing-down specialist, and even if Cook were to miss time at some point after the team's Week 7 bye, Davis could still garner a good portion of the carries out of the backfield.

2019
Johnson began to see consistent snaps on offense Week 11 last season after Joe Brady took over as the Bills' interim offensive coordinator. The 2019 sixth-round pick was mostly deployed as a passing-down back with the Lions and Jets, but Brady used him more as a runner, including 15 carries for 66 yards in two playoffs game. Johnson's 4.4 speed made him a solid complementary option behind James Cook in the backfield, and Brady's return as offensive coordinator sets up the possibility for a similar role in 2024. The Bills added competition, however, using a fourth-round pick on Ray Davis and then bringing in undrafted rookie Frank Gore.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could benefit from Cook's absence
Johnson could get more opportunities with the first-team offense in minicamp, as Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reports that James Cook may hold out as Cook angles for an extension.
ANALYSIS
Johnson split backup duties with rookie Ray Davis in 2024, as the former posted 497 scrimmage yards, which was well behind Cook's team-leading total of 1,267 in the regular season. If Cook holds out during contract talks, Davis and Johnson would likely split first-team reps in practice.
