Deals are beginning to trickle in ahead of the NHL trade deadline, and while there's been more bark than bite in recent years, it's still an exciting time of year.

The swap between Arizona and Los Angeles was interesting and could provide a notable boost in value for Tobias Rieder. On the flip side, considering how many netminders are nursing injuries and the number of teams in need of an established goaltender, the Coyotes might have gotten ahead of the market and landed a coveted asset.

For fantasy purposes, staying ahead of your opponents is the name of the game. It's time to take a long look at the strengths and weaknesses of your competition; remaining active on the waiver wire is one means of preventing competitors from improving.
