T.J. Brown

Earns first UFC victory
May 1, 2021
Brown defeated Kai Kamaka via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
Brown gets his first UFC victory and it comes in controversial fashion. It would appear as if Kamaka deserved this decision, but it wasn't meant to be. Statistically, Brown was the more effective fighter. He was certainly the more active fighter. All told, Brown was credited with 110 total strikes landed and two takedowns, compared to 85 total strikes and one takedown from Kamaka. Brown earned his UFC opportunity with a submission win on Dana White's Contender Series back in August 2019. He followed that up with a submission loss to Jordan Griffin and a unanimous decision loss to Danny Chavez. This victory almost certainly saved his job.

Brown is still looking for his first victory as a UFC fighter after getting submitted in the second round by Jordan Griffin and losing a unanimous decision against Danny Chavez in his two fights with the promotion thus far. Kamaka has also fought just two under the UFC banner, winning a unanimous decision against Tony Kelley in his debut before losing by second-round TKO against Jonathan Pearce.
Loses after missing weight
August 15, 2020
Brown lost to Danny Chavez via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 252 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's been a rough 36 hours for Chavez. After missing weight by half a pound on Friday morning, he forfeited 20 percent of his purse to Chavez in order for the fight to proceed and still ended up dropping a clear-cut unanimous decision. Brown might have won Round 3 (it was close), but he was so ineffective over the course of the first ten minutes -- particularly Round 2 -- that the writing was on the wall as soon as this one hit the judge's scorecards. A product of Dana White's Contender Series, Brown has now dropped his first two UFC bouts. That, combined with missing weight, means there is no guarantee he will get a third opportunity with the company.

Given 30-day medical suspension

Brown has received a 30-day medical suspension following his second-round loss via submission at UFC Norfolk, Steven Marrocco of MMAFighting.com reports.
Brown was highly effective in the first-round, but appeared to lose steam in Round 2. It is unclear what specific injury he sustained, but the 29-year-old will have to wait at least a month until he can look to bounce back from his debut loss.
