ANALYSIS

Wrestling again leads to victory
FeatherweightUFC
January 15, 2022
Brown defeated Charles Rosa via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) at UFC on ESPN 32 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
It was a dominant victory for Brown despite the fact his originally scheduled opponent -- Gabriel Benitez -- was forced to withdraw just days before the bout. As is generally the case, Brown leaned on his wrestling to secure the win. He landed 6-of-8 takedown attempts, good for 7:39 worth of control time. The 31-year-old Arkansas native improves to .500 (2-2) with the UFC. If there's one concern moving forward regarding Brown, it's how reliant he is on his grappling game. He has landed at least four takedowns in three of his four bouts with the company, but it remains to be seen how he will win fights if those takedowns aren't landing.
Gets new opponent for Saturday
FeatherweightUFC
January 12, 2022
Brown (15-8-0) is scheduled to face Charles Rosa (14-6-0) in a lightweight fight Saturday at UFC Vegas 46 after Brown's initial opponent, Gabriel Benitez, withdrew from the event Wednesday due to a health concern, Alexander K. Lee of MMAFighting.com reports.
ANALYSIS
The Brown-Benitez matchup was scheduled as a featherweight fight, but the new bout will be scheduled in the 155-pound division, a concession that was likely made on Brown's part due to Rosa accepting the match on just three days' notice. Brown will be making his first appearance in the Octagon since May 2021, when he earned a split-decision victory over Kai Kamaka at UFC Vegas 25.
Taking on Gabriel Benitez
FeatherweightUFC
December 6, 2021
Brown will face Gabriel Benitez on Jan. 15, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Brown lost his first two fights after joining the UFC in 2020, but he rebounded to defeat Kai Kamaka by split decision in May. His opponent, Benitez, has been with the promotion since 2014, winning five of his first seven fights before dropping three of his next four, giving him a 6-5 record overall as a UFC fighter.
Earns first UFC victory
FeatherweightUFC
May 1, 2021
Brown defeated Kai Kamaka via split decision (29-28, 27-30, 29-28) at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Las Vegas.
ANALYSIS
Brown gets his first UFC victory and it comes in controversial fashion. It would appear as if Kamaka deserved this decision, but it wasn't meant to be. Statistically, Brown was the more effective fighter. He was certainly the more active fighter. All told, Brown was credited with 110 total strikes landed and two takedowns, compared to 85 total strikes and one takedown from Kamaka. Brown earned his UFC opportunity with a submission win on Dana White's Contender Series back in August 2019. He followed that up with a submission loss to Jordan Griffin and a unanimous decision loss to Danny Chavez. This victory almost certainly saved his job.
Facing Kai Kamaka
FeatherweightUFC
February 4, 2021
Brown will take on Kai Kamaka on May 1, Marcel Dorff of MMADNA reports.
ANALYSIS
Brown is still looking for his first victory as a UFC fighter after getting submitted in the second round by Jordan Griffin and losing a unanimous decision against Danny Chavez in his two fights with the promotion thus far. Kamaka has also fought just two under the UFC banner, winning a unanimous decision against Tony Kelley in his debut before losing by second-round TKO against Jonathan Pearce.
