T.J. Brown

Loses after missing weight
August 15, 2020
Brown lost to Danny Chavez via unanimous decision (28-29, 28-29, 28-29) at UFC 252 on Saturday in Las Vegas.
It's been a rough 36 hours for Chavez. After missing weight by half a pound on Friday morning, he forfeited 20 percent of his purse to Chavez in order for the fight to proceed and still ended up dropping a clear-cut unanimous decision. Brown might have won Round 3 (it was close), but he was so ineffective over the course of the first ten minutes -- particularly Round 2 -- that the writing was on the wall as soon as this one hit the judge's scorecards. A product of Dana White's Contender Series, Brown has now dropped his first two UFC bouts. That, combined with missing weight, means there is no guarantee he will get a third opportunity with the company.

Disappointing setback in UFC debut
February 29, 2020
Brown lost to Jordan Griffin via submission (guillotine choke) at 3:38 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in Norfolk, Virginia.
Brown was making his UFC debut, but the fact he lost to Brown -- who had dropped both of his prior bouts with the company -- is not a good sign. It was an especially disappointing performance for Brown when you take into account he was the far more effective fighter in Round 1 and appeared to be in good shape prior to the finish. The 29-year-old had earned his UFC opportunity with a submission victory on Dana White's Contender Series last August.
UFC debut booked
December 30, 2019
Brown (jaw) will face Jordan Griffin in a featherweight bout at UFC Norfolk on Feb. 29, Jami Frankenberry of The Virginian-Pilot reports.
Brown earned a contract at Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series in August by defeating Dylan Lockard via submission (rear-naked choke), but a broken jaw suffered during the fight delayed his UFC debut. He'll make his first appearance with the promotion against Griffin, who is 0-2 with the UFC after losing to Chas Skelly via unanimous decision at UFC Vancouver in September. Griffin is a skilled fighter on his feet, but he's lacked the all-around game to compete thus far under the UFC banner. Brown showed excellent wrestling skills during his matchup with Lockard and should provide a formidable opponent as Griffin looks to bounce back from a two-fight losing streak.
