Ilia Topuria

El Matador

Remains perfect in UFC
March 19, 2022
Topuria defeated Jai Herbert via KO (punch) at 1:07 of Round 2 at UFC Fight Night on Saturday in London.
It didn't come easy for Ilia, but there is a real case to be made that this was his most impressive victory to date for a variety of reasons. It appeared Topuria would be on the short end of a stoppage defeat as a -600 favorite after Herbert clocked him with a high kick in the opening frame, but Topuria recovered remarkably quickly and managed to settle down and ride out the rest of the opening round. The finish came early in the second frame when Topuria -- typically known for his submission game -- displayed all-world stopping power in connecting with a right hand that ended the fight immediately. Topuria is now a perfect 4-0 in the UFC, with his three most recent wins (Herbert, Ryan Hall, Damon Jackson) coming via knockout. He'll also earn a $50,000 Performance of the Night bonus for his efforts here, which was the case for every fighter on the card who produced a finish.
